An Excel Program To Keep Track Of Your Ring Scrap Values, Etc!

A friend of mine is an expert in Excel since he uses it a lot for work. He developed a program for it that allows you to list all your rings, K value, etc. It then subtracts a small percentage for the stone weight to get a more realistic scrap gold weight value. You can then enter the current price of gold and it will subtract the small percentage that Midwest or others (I think he lists several) is currently taking as a fee. The end result is you simply enter the current market gold price and the program will show you each ring's value in scrap gold minus all the above. It's a handy way to keep track of the current value of both individual rings and your entire collection as a whole.

I told him to post a message like this on here and he might still yet to provide more details or correct something I said. Either way, since he can't upload this program to Find Mall due to it's restrictions of file types, he is willing to Email it to people who wish to have it. Send me a PM with your Email address and I'll Email you the program (or template, whatever you call it) for Excel. He may come on here himself and offer that but either way he doesn't have a problem with me sending it to people.

Sounds like your friend put a lot of work into this program. If he doesn't mind, I'd like to try it out. The wife has been bugging me to sell sell sell and I can't can't can't seem to bring myself to cashing it in. Although I would like to see what potential gains I would get.

You need to PM me your email address. Here's what my friend had to say about the format and how it works...

For some reason I'm not able to upload a jpeg of the file on this forum, although I did on the Sovereign/Excalibur forum.

I put together this file to track the value of my gold pieces. All of the blue shaded fields are where you input data, while others are formulas. You simply weigh your piece in Pennyweights and post under the corresponding karat column. I used used 20 DWT (1 troy oz) as an example. I added a "Stone Adj" column to back out the estimated weight of the stone. I plan to use a factor of 5%. The Net weight is displayed in DWT, Gram and Troy Oz. The "Refining Fee" column is where you post the refiner's fee (ARA Gold is 2%) which leaves a Net Value.

I plan to use the ID# in the 1st column to physically tag my gold piece so I can easily tie it back to this log. That way if I decide to sell any of the pieces, I'll know their value and can remove them from the log.

The gold spot price per troy oz is posted in the upper-right. Once you have all your pieces posted, you would simply enter the new spot price to recalculate your total collection scrap value in the last row.

I would be interested in any feedback/suggestions from you guys. If you want a free copy of the Excel file, PM me your e-mail address.
