An English penny, a ring and lot's of humidity!

Well-known member
Having been here in Pekin, Illinois for nearly 4 weeks, I have a new appreciation for all you Mid-Western metal detectorists. I don't do well in high humidity and all the bugs, especially mosquito's are enough to tell me to get back to SoCal where I belong!! Our daughter made us grandparents for the 7th time (she has 5) and so most of my time has been helping out with the grand-kidlets and repainting a trashed rental I have here in town. Next week my wife and I get to fly back home to a well earned rest!
I found the 1918 English penny in a tot-lot and have no idea how it got there. I guess a kid raided his Dad's coin collection? The stainless ring came from another location and that's about it folks! Can't wait to hit the beaches back home and bask in that 'dry heat'!

Congratulations! Nice finds. I know what you mean about humidity, until the last couple days this summer has been bad for high humidity and rain.

If you want to see mosquitoes come down South. Compared to the mosquito population we have in South Carolina they are virtually non existent up north. Step out in my back yard for five minutes and you can kill 30 to 50 of them in the next five minutes. Those were some nice finds. Congratulations.

Congrats on the grandchildren there goldstrike...those finds are pretty cool too..... george you got me thinkin bout skeeters now...they haven't been bad this year up north but man i can tell you about a camping trip some 20 years ago in vermont along lake Champlain. ..just about at dust this heavy fog rolled in off the water only problem was it wasnt fog...never saw a swarm of mosquitoes like that before hope to never ever again...had to keep 2 citronella candles burning all night in the tent ....

Very nice !

You may be right about that penny being stolen from a parents collection, or maybe it was given to him or her and then lost. It definitely doesn't have that "I've been buried in the ground." look - its a nice pocket-circulated patina. A beauty for sure.
