CTTodd and I made sure that we picked one of hottest and stickiest days in the foreseeable future to climb up some serious hills to get to a couple of foundations. We haven't been out together in quite a few weeks so regardless of the hazy, hot and humid weather it was nice to be detecting together.
We first visited a foundation I previously detected for about twenty minutes during my last visit when I found one nice floral design button, but it is a more modern foundation so as interesting looking as this foundation is with two fireplaces still standing we didn't expect it to produce many old finds. Todd worked that area for a bit and I figured I would scout down the old woods road a bit further when I discovered another set of foundations. I trudged back up the hill to let Todd know that I had found foundations that appeared to be of an older vintage and we then started detecting these. There is a lot of iron in the area, and lots of little foundations and stonewalls through the area so it is interesting to detect.
I was getting discouraged but then found a shoe buckle practically right at the surface and then it got quiet again. I headed a bit further down and found yet another foundation In quick succession I recovered two spoons, and a neat handle off an old bucket. I knew time was short and we had to get home and so I started to head back towards the foundations that Todd was working when I found an eagle belt plate! Of course this find made the entire hunt worth the effort. I haven't had the time to try and ID the plate but, regardless whatever vintage it is, it's an interesting find.
Thanks for looking
