An awesome week of finds...

Bavaria Mike

New member
The field I have been detecting gave up some awesome relics this week. Had a hail storm come through one evening when I was in the middle of the field and fortunately, I had a ski cap on and a hood on my jacket. Must have been an omen as I found another Roman coin shortly after the hail stopped and the Romans were not settled here. I was only able to detect 1/3 of the field and I am not sure if I will get back to it as I will be moving over the next few weeks. Here is a beautiful church I passed most days on my drive to and from work, digital camera could not take a nice picture but here it is.

Here are the better finds. Also have a handful of worn copper coins, buttons, relics and a few clay marbles. The lead finds, 3 musket balls, a possible spindle whorl, two lead seals and a lead tag with no markings.

A large encrusted religious pendant.

Obverse of an American sterling silver marksmanship badge probably from WWII.

Reverse of the badge. Had two mounting pins and the hangars would have had the qualification level of expert, sharpshooter or marksman.

Your description is right "awesome". I would give anything to come over and hunt with you. Were you using the 10.5"DD coil? Good luck and HH. Dennis in Idaho

That shows that the person was a Marksman. They had Marksman, Sharpshooter and Expert. The hanger was for a description of what type of firearm they qualified with, such as rifle, machine gun, handgun, etc.

You can sure find an interesting 'mix' of history with a lot of stories behind them.

Keep it up!

Another wonderful collection of finds, Mike. Will your new location have potential like this, too? Bet you're going to miss that area.

I should have known or atleast looked at my own badges (Expert) LOL, I have been out of the military for over 14 years now, it is fading. HH, Mike

Hi Mike, I was going to ask you the other day about the depth of your finds. On the really old finds on average how deep are they? And what is the deepest find you have found using the 10.5 coil? Dennis in Idaho

What one one say. I think you could easily make a fellow detectorist jealous, with finds like that.
Well done Mike.
Mick Evans.
