Earlier today I was heading out detecting. I was going to make my way down a road they had cut through the woods to get me closer to where I wanted to detect. As I was driving in, I bottomed out on a stump in the middle of the road which was invisible to me as I was going through the brush . Thankfully, it wasn't completely hung up and I slid over it. Not wanting to go out detecting and having to wonder if I was going to make it back out of here without any issues, I decided to make my way back out. However, on the way back out Mr. SUV had no intention of going over it again without an issue. So, I had to build up the road on either side with a couple stones ( Thank You long gone farmer for building such a nice stone wall nearby) so that I wouldn't bottom out again.
During all this I chatting with CTTodd about getting out detecting with him and unfortunately how our schedules just weren't matching up .
I went to the other end of the farm, got suited up in my rain gear strapped on my tool pouch, put the detector together, and my headphones on and was ready to go. I turned on the CTX and found the battery was dead. I found out I was a bad boy for not turning it off after finishing last time. I could not tell you the last time this happened, although I do have a slight recollection of many years ago my old friend Minelab Sovereign playing the same joke on me.
Todd was nice enough to tell me that he had mentioned in the class he was teaching that he had a good hunting partner, but that doesn't imply that I'm too bright either.
Anyhow, I went home and the wife and kids were so excited to see me so soon after I left. Even though we had been together for the past 36 hours my son acted as if it had been days. I tried to explain to my wife that I'd rather be home with them then out tromping around damp woods, but she figured me out pretty quickly. I put the battery on my charger and then headed back out after 45 minutes or so of charging up.
I started detecting in a place I call Button Hill, aptly named after all the buttons I found there. I decided this time around I would start moving all the brush logs, and even smaller stones that I could move around in order to uncover some new ground. I normally will say that research paid off in the beginning of my posts. This time however, it was persistence that paid off. Button after button appeared until I had nine. It's not much but considering that quite a few of the target had been concealed underneath all these obstacles proved again that sometimes you have to try a little bit harder to find the goods. I'm not sure how many more buttons can be up there, but on another day when I have nowhere else to go I will head back to Button Hill and try again.
