An Absolutely Beautiful Day to be Looting

The sun was shining and the sea was sparkling because there was no surf to at Horseshoe Bay. Perfect conditions for a low and slow hunt, listening for whispers with the Whites Dually.
There weren't many targets today because the sand has really shifted in and covered the loot, burying it deep. All targets were super deep, even the pull tabs were deep. It helped that I landed a large, lead dive weight which made it easier to dig - I don't like using weight in heavy surf but it was so calm today that I left it in my loot pouch.

Total take was a .925 ring, a 14k band, the dive weight and 60 cents in clad.

I had a really nice hunt in perfect conditions and picked up a little more sunburn to add to my tan.

Love those gold bands, congrats! I've been meaning to ask you water hunters about dive weights. Do you wear them? How much weight? I am guessing that it helps with leverage when digging. I have some around somewhere from when I did a little diving. HH!

I don't normally use diveweights because you can get into trouble quick when the surf is running hard and diveweights will just make the trouble worse. The Kelty bag in the pic is my loot pouch and it has a quick release on the belt. That's the only way I would use a diveweight and then only in calm conditions. If you step into a deep pocket or a drop off, you really don't want to have that weight dragging you to the bottom.
That said, some surf pirates do use diveweights regularly and feel they are the way to go.
