Amplifiers for the GT.

I was wondering if there is a amplifier for the Souvereign GT. And I like to know how it works.

Does it work in the disc and in the AM mode also ??

Thanks,

Andre

I dont know the answer, but i know Old Beech Nut uses one on his machines. You might check out DOC's detectors since i believe hes the one that makes them. http://www.docsdetecting.com/docsplace/coiltek/coils3.html#acfso It says it works on ANY detector.

I think that is a audio amp for use on the gold detector, but will work on any of them as I got one for my Explorers and did try it on my Sovereign too, but didn't need it for the Sovereign as I found the headphones that have plenty of volume. I got mine from Doc and was around $100 and worked good for the audio for those that needed it, but since found a set of different headphones that will work good on my Explorer/E-Trac and a different set that works good on my Sovereigns with out the amp.
this unit plugs into the headphone jack and your headphones plug into the unit which is mounted on the shaft, so there is some extra cable and the volume is adjustable on the unit. I felt it worked good on my Explorers when I used it.

There are a couple Amps for the Sovereign, first here is Doc's Amp

Unfortunately Doc's amp does not work on many detectors, all it does is amp up the volume...Even the Excalibur in discrimination mode that's all it does

It only works in the PP mode on the Excalibur, and the sovereign with work...which I have not got into yet but the sovereign, and this is PP/AM mode only...for some reason the signal is clipped..like a coin signal, the top of the signal gets cut off..so the center point of the signal is dead center on the coin. Now CJC speaks of removing something......."blast diode"?

They said it could'nt be done. Well I kept plugging away and sure enough, it works great with superb depth and target ID from the enhanced tone. First you need a mono converter. THEN you go into the unit and take out he blast diode. With it your signals will sound clipped and indistinguishable. Today's helpful hint.

The reason it works on the Excalibur is the target/signal disruptions of the threshold can be very faint, and even covered by the threshold, adjustment is just like the gold detectors, from doc's site....

doc's said:
PROPER ADJUSTMENT: The thing you have to do with the Gold Screamer is to take a test nugget and place it on the ground, swing over it and adjust the volume of the Gold Screamer up, and now turn the threshold down, swing over again and turn the GS up, threshold down. Keep doing this until you get a sense of the best setting. What you are trying to do is to separate the threshold from the target sound as far as you can, so what you are looking for is a nice quiet threshold, but when you come across a small target it really jumps out from the quiet threshold. You are trying to move the threshold far to the left, to the quiet side, and the signal far to the right to the loud side.

It is so easy to do and make the gold, even the little stuff, just pop out from the threshold.

From this video you can see the target was unheard, and covered by the threshold once the amp was turned on, ..once the threshold was turned down you can hear the target...

Second........... there is Shaunfth Amp, which works great on land but at the beach...just to much power with the saltwater...fresh water it may work, have not tried it yet.

Ok, This brings up a point I have been thinking about that I need to research. Most people get hearing loss in the low end, and/or the high end frequencies. My hearing loss is in the mid-range frequencies. I can hear low frequencies, I can hear many of the high frequencies, but the mids - well, I miss a lot sometimes.

So, is there anyone out there that can design an in-line amp by frequency? Not particularly individual frequencies, but ranges of them. I suppose this might be similar to using an equalizer to some extent, but there are variations I have thought of, and just need to find the right person to talk with about it.

Having something like this for the excal isn't all that realistic, but for the Sov or any other dry MD, it could be good for people like me that have a different kind of hearing problem (really, there are a lot of people with this same problem, just not the "normal pattern" of hearing loss that a larger percentage of people experience).
