Amigo modification

Eric

New member
Bought a cheap Amigo recently. I wanted to slap a 5.75 coil on it so I made the adjustments for it by attaching a female plug. I also bought a monopod for a camera that has a smallest size of 12 inches. This would be good for backpacking or vacations, or just when you dont want to be seen draging a detector in public.

I only need to figure out a handgrip to make it more comfortable on longer hunts.

Thanks for looking.

Eric.

Very nice job. Sort of a pocket detector.

nice... looks like an AH PRO backpacker. a half moon handle above the box on the shaft may work, like a tote handle. (I may go your route with mine!

Hey Eric, the Amigo 2 came with a Speed Handle. Maybe Tesoro still has one. Wouldn't hurt to call them.

Eric, I have a couple of old Compass Coin Hustlers that were the same set up as your Amigo II that I jury rigged with an alum. tube & elbow brace with added mountain bike bar ends, and they work pretty good. Be aware that the bar ends will likely not be found without an "offset angle" in them, unless you want to pay a huge amount of $$.Straight ones may have even been outlawed, due to injuries in bike crashes. Those with the "offset" work just fine and if I remember, were 15-17$ a pair, or possibly less.Be cool though if Tesoro still has some handles left, and they can't be beat for solving our problems!.HH, Charlie

Nice setup indeed...however be advised should a modified Tesoro go down Tesoro Tech's will not touch it...Only mods I would make on a Tesoro is mods that could be reverted back in case the unit goes down...

Charles,

Just bought myself a few Bar- ends with an angle. I guess with a foam handgrip it would be perfect. The monopod is really light to swing so the weight does not bother me. Just something that for a better grip is needed. I will take the amigo to some playgrounds this week and check it out.

Thanks, Eric.

I have the speed handle myself, did not know that was the name. you cant go wrong with one, due to shoulder problems, it is my main unit. next comes a Compadre!

Use a boat railing bracket, 60 degree angle, and get a 7/8 piece of aluminum tube. I put one on this shaft, gives a good angle.
