Amigo II mod?

Desert_Rat

New member
I have a amigo II that the coil that is getting a little long in the tooth and I would like to make it interchangeable. Does anyone know where to get the connector? I read a thread on adding the connector to a Compadre which is basically the same machine in a different housing. Thought about using a CB mic connector but don't want to mod all my coils and other detectors.

Thanks for the help,

Kelley

Hi Kelly, at the wise suggestion of Ty Brooks, I put the plug mod I did on my Amigo II, about a foot or so outside the box. That way there is always plenty of cable to work with later if need be and it is much easier than going inside that little box . I think the plug is from Switchcraft, but I happened to have a Tesoro hipmount extension that I had for years and never used so I used the plug from it. I would think you could get a plug from Tesoro,or even buy the extension if they still have them, if that's what it takes to get one.Tesoro folks are the greatest to deal with but not to happy with folks doing mods etc. on their machines., so may not so easily let out some particular piecy parts. I have not used my Amigo but a couple of times since putting the plug on but it is good knowing there are several different coils.I can use now.More than likely if your old coil is just needing some TLC, or whatever, Tesoro would very likely take care of it, maybe even slap a new coil on it for you, no charge. The plug is the more fun way to go though and that way you can swap out a bunch of different coils on it. Should be fun to experiment with. HH, Charlie

One of the few things I like about Arizona is having Tesoro so close. I think I'll drive up and see if they wouldn't mount a 5.75 on it. Thanks for the idea Charlie.

give Tesoro a call before I drove a long way to see them. From what I have heard from others they are not allowed to do mod's because of the way their warrantee system is set up, and we all know it is one of the best and we all have benefitted greatly from it. Sure can understand their reasons. Good Luck, and maybe you can get a couple of plugs from them if you make the trip. LOL, now that would be cool! Charlie

While you're there, maybe tell them that we're all waiting for something new from them . Maybe they'll give you a hint you can share with us.
