Amigo II and Compare

I think I may have made an attempt awhile back to get some clarification on some differences (if any)between the Amigo II and the newer (2 versions ,,,? if such) Compadre.Just how does low noise/high gain apply to all versions of the 2 detectors? It is a bit confusing and seems I read from time to time different descriptions of which machine has, or has not, one or the other of the low noise/high gain circuits. My question alone is easily enough confusing, but in discussions here on the forum it has been voiced that there is a difference in some circuit boards of the earlier and later Compadres. Or am I just confused and wasting our time ?.No big deal, but most of us do like to keep up with what we enjoy so much. I say all this because I spent some time with my Amigo II yesterday and spent a lot of time digging some fairly good signals that had been passed over by a Tejon (3 different coils) a Cibola, a Whites Prism, and even some others. One of the digs was a small slick 1812 Button. The A II was smoking butt !! Plain and simple. There was no heavy amount of iron trash, but some for sure. Button was probably 4" or a little more, so certainly within easy range of a any of the other detectors, as was the two remains of small cal. bullet hulls, and also another tiny 1 1/2 " long piece of what I am pretty sure is 1812 related also.Anyhow,I just thought I would throw that all out there for those that may be interested and have any input. You can bet I will be keeping the Amigo II close at hand, if not in hand , a lot more than before and be tooting my horn for OT long and loud.Be cool if Tesoro would actually update some of their old tech. Bet it would smoke some butt too! HH, Charlie

i agree 100% with your thoughts on an Amigo II. i have the one with the speed stick and arm cuff i call it for lack of proper name. i use an original eldorado, so the weight difference is a relief. battery life is incredible. now, mine had a mod done. the former owner drilled a small hole in the box, on the letter r in the word discrimination on the upper right hand face of box. it has a the words vlf, motion, and discriminate in that order caddy cornered on the face. the hole allows a small micro flatblade screw driver to be inserted to turn a screw. it makes it hotter as was told me. i think it cranks up the sensitivity. turn it until it chatters a little and it goes deeper it seems. i dont like too much chatter. a small rubber stopper seals it off. i bought the machine, actually traded for some yard work for a pro hunter with dozens of units. worth every drop of sweat. headphones a must for me due to hearing loss... fowlercharles, does it have the same circiutry of the compadre? i can find a baby earring, and have found several, in freshwater beach sand, also gold and silver rings as deep as any detector medium priced range. i find the small coil preferred for high iron junk in my area, and have done chrry picking in old dump sites from the 1800's where the bottle diggers, friends, throw out the dirt. coins and trigger guards, insurance tag fobs, you name it. lite, tight, productive, inexpensive, easy to operate. ok tesoro, enough of a plug, put the compadre on a speed handle.

My A II has the speed stick also and I put a plug inline about 12" outside the box so I can change coils whenever I choose. I am using a 7" White Con. coil at present. It is not the original coil that came with it but is the same coil originally hardwired to all A II's. The mod done to yours sounds exactly like what some folks are doing nowdays to the Compadre, and does give it some more punch.Sounds like you got a winner . I have a Compadre too with the hardwired 5.75 and thought about tweaking the Sens up on it some but don't know that I will need to.I ain't much of a Tech. so will probably not mess with it, though I did manage to adjust the GB on one of my SWinders. I first want to do some comparing of the A II and the Compadre, since they are "supposed" to be the same machines other than the setup/frame .My thoughts for my post were based on the differences some have mentioned being in the circuit boards of some of the earlier, or newer Compadres. It all may just have to do with the different size coils being used on the Compadres. The low noise/high gain use in some and not in others(if so) causes me to be curious about things, especially when I put the A II to the dirt and things started happening. I had not noticed so much in the few times I used the Compadre, so I naturally wondered what was going on. Probably nothing but hitting a string of some good digs missed by others and myself. It happens often with all of us and is not really so unusual.. I do know I will be using the A II and the Compadre much more now, because they are both just a ball to swing. I knew that already, but even moreso now. HH, Charlie
