AMES TRENCHING SHOVEL

I saw these on the the A.M. Leonard website and was wondering if anyone had tried one or how well it would work for digging plugs in fields or areas where a small shovel would be ok to use.
You can get these in 3", 4", or 5" widths x 11" long. The handles would have to be cut down to about 40 inches or whatever you liked, but for 36.00 plus shipping the price seems reasonable.
These may not be as nice as the Lesche shovels, but you can buy two of these for the price of the Lesche. It sure would be nice to have something like this for hunting plowed fields and not
have to abuse the aching knees so much. What do you think ? Good buy or waste of money and just spring for the Lesche?..............Thanks

Roger

A buddy of mine has one, he cut down the handle like you mentioned and it will go deep. He said the angle of the handle takes a while to get used to. He got his at Lowes.

I know that wasn't your question.. But just making note........ it looks like a shovel !!

I agree with Elton. First impression= shovel. Then again my digging tool looks like a huge knife. We walk a fine line. HH. Matt

Not to worry guys, I would never go packing something like this around in a public spot.....this would be strictly for plowed fields and the old picnic groves I hunt on private property.
I'm more concerned about the quality of the tool.....I don't like buying junk and if this won't hold up to the rigors of detecting I will just get the Lesche shovel. Being that it is about
half the cost of the Lesche shovels is what caught my eye. I have been involved in this hobby for over 30 years and have always been one to leave a site looking as good or better than it
did before I hunted it and stress that fact to anyone that hunts with me. Nothing could be worse than finding a great site to hunt and get banned from it for sloppy digging.......HH

Roger....there's a lot of paranoia around here when you mention "shovel". It looks to me like it would be just dandy for plowed fields and such.

All discount and big warehouse Home supplies sell them... Get what you pay for I'm sure....
Go to a full blown Contractors supply house and check out a price for quality tool....

Good trenching tool. Too much of an angle for a digging shovel and the foot step is too small for my liking. Use them for cleaning narrow trenches. Give it a try, you may like it.
