Amazing Where Silver Turns Up!

I went looking for the site of a late 1800s picnic. I had noted a reference in an old paper for the "Picnic on the Prairie", with a general location. I was out about half way between BFE and a ghost town (Georgetown - private property, too bad). Did some sniffing around in a few clearings, & was finding mostly old mining, hunter, and party junk... feeling a little 'slumpish'. Working my way up a dry creek, I pulled a piece of what I thought was Aluminum from 6" - 7" down along the bank. I was very pleased to see the 'Sterling' mark on the back. Not sure if it was a monogrammed belt buckle or from a fancy match or cigarette case. Pretty smushed, but .34 oz silver, none the less. I searched the banks and up and down, but couldn't find the rest of it. I did find the funky Copper ring above it in the bank (looks like a home made job from Copper pipe).

I found the bullets and telegraph key (?) in a field - full of lead, could have pulled a hundred bullets and cartridges, and some old horse and wagon gear, and the neat little copper or brass measuring tape (I guess, can't get it to pull out yet). Also found 16 1960s & up coins.

Always nice to find some Silver and rings, even if they aren't the finds of the month!! Thanks for looking & Luck In The Hunt to all!

Thanks, Guys! Yeah, Inch, I love being out where I can use a REAL shovel :goodnight:
I'm still looking for a real honey hole, but doing lots of research and getting out quite a bit - it's a great way to get a little exercise, and my mind is so busy filtering out bottle caps and beaver tails that I don't even notice it!

Nice assortment of finds! Silver is always great and you're right, it is amazing where the silver turns up :) Congrats

William,
Thanks for the great posts. I like seeing the pictures of the searched areas. Good luck and HH. Mac

I love relics! That would be a pretty good day around here. Good hunting!

Very cool finds....I do nto think the copper ringf IS a ring...think it is a modern cut off from the top of a copper pipe to size it to fit...
