Amazing stories of the ATP!

Went hunting with a regular hunting buddy the other day. His turn to pick so we hit an old baseball practice field. It's from the 70's so I didn't expect much.

Anyway was cruising around with my ATP and got a faint and erratic high tone, pro zero mode. Because it came and went I did a 90 degree and tried again, and lost the signal. Started from square one and same thing. Asked my buddy to hit it with his Spectra V3i, Even though it's an expensive machine, same thing. One direction a faint no vdi signal, nothing from the other direction. Being more curious and my buddy digs fewer iffy targets I dug it. Had to dig a bigger hole than usual, my pro pointer is acting up. Dug a large deep plug, at least 10 inches and couldn't find it. Looked and looked. Then I noticed a piece of mud had been thrown from the rest of the plug and ran the coil over it and got a strong signal. There it was a 1978 Penney. Yelled, Found It! and the buddy walks over takes a look and says, "You found that down there?" Yep! At least 10 inches.

The silence and look on his face said much. It was a lot of work and wasn't a great find. But it felt good doing it. Just knowing I can make finds like that feels good.

Tell me your story...

Hahahaha very cool story mate, I love hearing things like that........under dog beats the champ sort of thing.....priceless.
Cheers!

Nice! That penny could have just as easily been a gold ring!:wiggle: It's good to know that it'll hit that deeply.
I don't really have any great stories that I can think of off hand right now.
I mostly use the AT to hunt beaches now. I have dug some targets deep as heck, though.
Happy Hunting!:)

This weekend I got an iffy signal an old school yard. I go by sounds but use the VDI as a data point. Turned 90 degrees, 180, 270, whatever...there seemed to be something there. Dug down about 6 inches and the signal disappears when I swung over the hole. I know there's something there...but where? Took out the Pro Pointer and nothing. Dug another 3 inches...no signal but the Pro Pointer blipped a couple of times. Dug a an inch or so out and put it on the ground; the Pro Pointer started beeping. Pulled a 1956 Wheatie. I said to Butch near me, "this is my favorite find!"

I've dug deep ones myself. I dug an 1888 Indian Head at 8-9 inches and it had 4 inches of Stone screenings on top. The ground wasn't very moist either. I only got a faint sweet signal in one direction and no sound any other way. It was my first target at this particular area we stopped at. I was using Pro Zero with 39 Iron disc. Was a complete suprise and also my first IH.

Went to a iron bottle cap pulltab infested hunted out park and the iffy vdi had me dig 10 inches to only surprise me with 1904 barber dime. I walked out of there smiling because all the coils that swepted over it didnt hear it.
