I received my Explorer SE PRO yesterday.
Noticed right away the balance is a lot different from the *** (not overly heavy, but different).
I took it right into my test garden of 3+ years old.
Turned on, noise cancelled and tried each target with factory settings.
All but three targets revealed their location with a very smooth consistent high tone (enough for me to dig).
One important note about my test garden, prior to burying the coins, I did not clean out the iron before planting each coin (some might disagree with this procedure).
I have 13 coins in the garden.
A copper penny, nickel, dime and quarter were buried at 2, 4 and 6" deep (flat), plus a half at 4".
The three coins I could not hear were the same ones that the *** could not find when the ground is very wet. (We have had 3 days of soaking rain)
Now, back to the Explorer, I adjusted the discrimination to about half the preset settings and all three of the coins became known.
Each gave a very "nice" dig high tone. ID numbers were fairly constant.
Please keep in mind the area where I live have very high mineralization soil content. Many areas will max out the FEO meter on my ***.
I am pleased with my first encounter.

Mark, keep in mind the Explorers will do even better in the
field.
For some reason, even on long planted coin plots, Explorers
don't like the disturbed soil that was necessary to dig the hole.
As for weight, as long as one isn't old like I am or sweeping large
areas for extended hours, you may not suffer too much.
You may be able to do better using iron mask rather than a program.
Iron mask allows for quick adjustments on the fly.
Also if you want to hear those deep ones better, you can adjust the
gain setting.
I always run high gain but it does take away some of the modulation.
Be sure to take you time learning it, Explorers are different from any
other detector so some patience will be necessary.
Once you get all the fundamentals down, you may want to play with
different settings to see what fits you best.
HH

Thanks
I guess 53 might just be in the older range for age.
I might just have to lift a little weights to build up some muscle.

Well, I`m 57, good muscle tone, and love my Se Pro, but after 25 hours of swinging this thing over a 3 week period, my right arm is a wreck ! Especially the upper part.

one thing to learn before your too old is moderation. it isn't on the machine or in the manual but you will learn it. it's easier to teach oneself than to allow the machine to do it to you, grasshoppers.

What does that mean?

I am 69 and have been swinging explorers since 02. I just hope I can continue because I have tried many other machines that were lighter and they just don't stack up to the explorer:nono:

Hey, all -- we have two arms, right? Maybe we can learn to swing with BOTH of 'em, just sayin!

Seriously, though, hey Steve(MS) -- you say Explorers in particular don't like disturbed soil, and I've heard many say they don't do well in air tests (so I didn't even try one on my new SE Pro). You have found that yours does better on naturally-dropped coins, as opposed to ones planted in a test garden?

Steve

51 years old and like how swinging the SE Pro is helping me stay fit ;>) Now if I could just attract more silver and gold ;>)
