AMA 1916 Lapel Pin

MD'ng in DeKalb IL over the weekend with 11 year old son - a favorite hobby of ours. Still using the first MD we bought, a basic Whites (not even sure of the model, it was only $200 when I bought it about 4 years ago). Dug up this 1916 American Medical Association lapel pin, front and back shown in picture. The AMA is headquatered right here in Chicago. While this piece may not be worth more than the copper its made of, the history that comes with it is what makes MDng such fun.

Ready to upgrade, any suggestions? We are weekend MDrs, looking for coins and jewelery. White's? Other? Model?

Its always nice to hear stories of families metal detecting together. Nice find by the way. Check out the White's M-6 and the MXT, both are awesome detectors. HH Dennis in Idaho

Very nice, definitely a prize for your treasure box. I recently purchased a Whites MXT which was easy to use out of the box, But to master the full capability
of this instrument, one needs to test, swing, and study VDI responses. It helps to have a place like this where people with the same detector can help answer any peculiar questions which may come up. The guys at Kellyco can help you pick one out thats easy for younger explorers to handle. Maybe you need two.
I too have a partner, my 3 year old boston terrier,Spike. He's also an explorer, nose to the ground is where he's happiest. Any ground we detect gits pretty good coverage.
Some doctor that collects might talk you out of it, but then the shared experience with your kid is worth quite a bit.
Hope this helped, you seem like a nice guy.
