Am looking at buying an ACE 350, Help!

I am a Whites MXT owner and user and really like the machine. I really want my wife or kids to go detecting with me. Without an another detector they just wander around and watch me, which is boring for them. The price for an MXT is steep for me at this point at $800.00. I have been looking for another detector and have been reading alot about the ace 250. It seems this machine has about the same sort of following that the mxt has ie: almost fanatically positive. I really like the weight of the ACE 350 at about half of my MXT. This is a real plus for my wife. If I buy, it will be the 350 simply because i like the bigger coil and the price is great. I have an sef 10x12 on my mxt. The bottom line is this, Will the 350 keep up with my MXT? I dont want introduce my family to something that is going to be a disappointment. I live in Alaska and dont see real old areas to hunt, mostly parks and schools etc. Thank you for looking and reading my long post. Greg

Greg, since you'll mostly be hunting the areas you mentioned, why the need for a larger coil? I'd get the 250 and take advantage of the smaller coil in areas that might contain a fair amount of trash. If you like the 250, no reason you wouldn't like the 350, since there's little difference outside the coils.

I have been thinking of that. I like the bigger coil for the soccer fields and such though. Am I correct about the 350 being a better machine as far as iron discrimination. Somewhere i read that is where the 250 falls behind a little.

You can't go wrong with either machine.:wiggle:Both are coin magnets.:biggrin:Best of luck to ya whichever detector you decide to get.:detecting:Happy Hunting!:)

The 350 doesn't have better iron discrimination, it has better iron resolution. The ace 250 was designed as a coin shooting machine and the 350 was designed as a relic hunting machine (they are really general purpose machines but each is tweaked up to be best at one thing). Both machines have 12 possible target ID segments - the 250 has more segments in the coin range so you get better resolution on coins, the 350 has more segments in the iron range so you get better resolution on iron targets. So if you are just going to discriminate out iron and not dig any of it then you would be better off with more resolution in the coin range.

The ACE 350 would be a good choice. The weight is perfect for the family. I used to just program mine to beep only on coins, so that my kids wouldn't lose interest on hunts. I also used to slip a few coins in the sand or ground to keep them interested, as their attention span was limited. I also hunt in the winter with mine. Those tobaggon hills give up a lot of coins. I made a jacket for my ACE housing out of cloth & duck tape, insert a hot pac, and the machine runs fine on a set of batteries.

It would be great for the family. It's light, easy to learn and use and a real coin magnet. Don't think they would be unhappy with it. One thing about it - if you didn't like it there would be no problem selling it due to it's popularity.

I love my 350 and have already found a lot of coins at schools and parks with it. To me it's better than the 250 because it's also a good relic detector which the kids will want to try as they get better with the detector

I ain't exactly okay but some better than I was. Feel like I been shot at and missed and sheit at and hit. HA. Spent the past 5-6 days mostly in bed. Be more than glad to get over this crap.

:usaflag:Any detector added to the arsenal is a positive thing. 250 would be better for coinshooting..
