Am I wise to trade off my Tejon?

I have always wanted to try the Cortes.

But odd things happened along the way and I never have owned one yet.

I'm seriously thinking of trading a new Tejon I recently recieved in a trade with a popular dealer here.

What do you think? Am I wise to trade (if I can find someone) for a used Cortes?

You'll probably give up half the depth to start with... Are ya a relic or coin hunter?? I had a cortes yrs ago, and would never own another..If your getten em with the tejon don't switch.

believe it or not the tejon holds a better and higher resale value than the cortez on average i thought i wanted one to but i changed my mind and opted for the vaq in my mind if i don't look at a screen i actuall y get better finds plus i get better depth.

What are you looking for in a detector?

If you have to trade the Tejon to get the Cortez, I'd think pretty hard against it. If you can add the Cortes to the Tejon, why not? My motto is anything worth having is worth having two (or more) of. LOL
Keep diggin,

and it was in my mind too.

There's no way a factory set machine can compare to a ground balance machine when it comes to depth.

I mostly hunt coins and jewelry but not in parks, etc. I hunt the wild country where houses once stood but now it's woods or plowed fields.

I can't afford both so it's the Tejon.

Thanks much to all.

I just got a Tejon, but thinking abt downgrading to the Vaquero, just because its smoother, and not a hardcore relic hunter, but I wouldn't trade for a Cortez.

One thing that really makes me wonder is out of 5 Cortes machines I've seen on ebay or here about 4 of the mentioned they sent the machine back to Tesoro to be checked. Have you ever noticed that? Watch the ads as they pop up either on ebay or all the forums and you'll see this again and again.

Trade a new Tejon for a used Cortez? I wouldn't. I haven't used my Tejon for over 12 months, simply because we're into our 7th year of drought where I live and the ground is too bl..dy hard. My back and wrists aren't good enough to get as deep as the Tejon can take me. I dont have a Cortez, so I suppose it depends of what you want to detect and how you want to do it. If you really really want a visual ID machine as well as the Tejon, think about the DeLeon. Even with preset GB it can reach good depths, in dry sand on salt-water beaches it can take you down to wet sand. Just my thoughts, Good Luck, Sapper.

Especially if you hunt in moderate to highly mineralized ground, or plan to use accessory search coils.

Tesoro needs to get with the program and join the TID ranks with a truly competitive model.

The Cortes I used once was a very nice machine. I liked it.
I have never used a Tejon.

Considering their value, I think it would be wise if you tried both of them before making such a decision.
One or the other may just work very well for you!

I agree with Monte's post above. Tesoro needs to get with the program as far as ID machines go. The Cortes is far inferior to just about every ID machine in that price range. The F70 and especially the Xterra 70 just blow it away. It was a good machine when it came out, but it came out 8 years ago.

Good post as sometimes Monte.

I am all for the Tejon so we differ there but I do aggree with a message in your post.

I just noticed it. I've really got to read my own threads better

You're right. I love Tesoros but it's high time they put it in the saddle.

I mean their most expensive machine has no ground balance in discrimination mode??? Come on!

All they'd have to do with the Cortes is upgrade to auto ground balancing in discrimination mode and they'd sell em like hotcakes. Now, if they did some other upgrades along with the GB they'd be a year behind in orders within 3 months of introduction.

Monte sometimes I think some companies figure they've had it so why try. Do you ever wonder about that?
