I will let the pic do the talking.

All toy guns and detecting probes have a red tip to let law enforcement recognize them as not a weapon.

You are not going to wear out the tip of the Pro pointer with normal use Robbie, but to each his own.....

Your 100% correct the tip will never wear out. In all honesty the only reason that I put the cover on is for a visual aid. Sometimes I just error on the side of caution. But it does help me out when I glance down and I see the color first.

Steve,

Where did you get the information about the red tips. The pinpointers do not come with them. They're an accessory for visual aide.

Robbie,

You're right, it's easier to find if left on the ground. That's why I love my DX- 1 from SunRay. It will never be left behind.

I never thought about the visual effect Robbie....... duh, that is a good idea then. There is a guy on the forums who sells the black tip to "protect" the pinpointer, he should follow your lead and use red instead.

Orange or red tip used by all toy makers for thier toy guns.

It began when this kid was holding up this toy gun in the air, and he pointed it at a policeman. The policeman thought it was a real gun, and shot the kid. Ended up killing him too. So now they put orange or red tips just to differentiate.

Yes, I know about the toy guns but what about the pinpointers? That's what inquiring minds want to know. Haven't heard a word about the pinpointers and the red cap except for protecting the end of it.

I have an inquiring mind but I'm not too worried about whether or not the pinpointers come with a red cap.

I don't think all pinpointer comes with a red end for safety. I know Ralph at SunRay went with them as an economical protector for the end but I don't think Minelab, Garrett or Detector Pro ships with any kind of end protector.... Nancy thought she might have missed some new rule or something about pinpointers.

To my knowledge none of the Pro-Pointers come with a tip cover. I just come up with the idea to help me identify my probe when I layed it down. The actual color of my cover is blaze orange. I know the pic shows a little more redish color. I hope this helps.

Robbie, I know about the tip for ease of locating it but I was wanting to know about what Steve stated about the law enforcement and pinpointers.

Now I understand Nancy. Law enforcement & pinpointers. I don't have a clue about that. Sorry
