Aluminum Cans ? Foil and ring pulls ?

New member
Hi all, I am very interested in something top of the range etc.. I really like the E-Trac... My thoughts are from what I read around the net is that there still doesn't seem to be anything that can deal with the common ring pull, aluminum can or tin foil ?
I can understand that you can cancel things out but at the cost of missing other finds etc. I am in a way disappointed that after all these years we done seem to of advanced much with these expensive metal detectors really?
Would I be right in saying that?
Sorry for the moan but just my honest thoughts at this moment in time.
cheers all

Yes & no. If you are relating t an ID scale on the detector, i.e. a square pull tab that ID's at 14 & a gold ring that ID's at 14. One is still left to using the audio response and shape + size of the target to make a judgment. The Explorers & E-Trac provide more information by providing a reading of the conductivity & magnetic content of the target. The E-Trac has just been released and the users are still familiarizing themselves with it. Like all new releases there is a mix of consternation, elation,:jump: and mental constipation.:lmfao:

Most of these items can be identified, with a number of detectors. It takes some time to master though. You don't need a top end detector either, just experienced at using the detector that you have in your hands.

You can raise your coil above the ground 12 inches if you suspect a can. If it beeps it's likely a can. Also a can will pinpoint larger than a coin. If you want jewelry simply dig foil and tabs. If that's not important to you then disc them out. Sometimes depending on the amount of trash and the ground I might be able to differentiate a tab from a nickel. But I still dig to make sure. After finding jewelry in the foil and tab range I can't pass up a good beep. If I do I wonder if I left gold in the ground? Sometimes on short hunts I leave the trash range targets in the ground.

To find good stuff, you're going to have dig some trash. That is just a fact of life. To have a machine that can actually image your target is going to be cost prohibitive and right now that is about the only way you're going to eliminate 90% of the trash you would dig. Think about it, are you going to hunt for coins, relics, or jewelry with a machine that cost $30K or more? I wouldn't think you'd ever recoup your cost. On the other hand, if you're willing to put in the time with a $500 detector you will start to hear differences in your targets and learn ways to avoid digging as much trash, as well as possibly find enough to offset the cost of the detector. That's the way life is, you get out of it what you put into it. If you're not willing to work for it, nobody is just going to hand it to you.
