Alternate relic faint high tones

You all have been really helpful on many occasions so here's another MXT rookie question. I like to hunt in the alternate relic mode, 10/2 setting with threshold barely audible and the Rats volume up. I do OK on coins 3-5" deep mostly clad no rings or other jewelry yet . I double check both modes for good ground and locke before I begin. I'm needing to gain confidence in the whispers and faint high tones, VDI and bar readings on the deeper hits. If I hear a really faint high tone on lets say a clad quarter at 6-7" with my 6x10 what in you opinion would the VDI probably read? If it reads at all how much faith can I put in the VDI and bars at that depth? The silver is deeper on my heavily worked sites and I want to get the best from my MXT but because of my age can't dig every hit. Are there other subtle clues or methods I can gather from the MXT in order to make that final dig or no dig decision on deeper targets? All words of wisdom and personal methods or tricks welcomed.

I have the MXT with the 6X10 coil and use it a lot. You should get a reading of 83 to 85 on the VDI. I would dig anything in the 80s.

If it's a really deep target (which many times are the very best targets) you may not get anything on the screen as far as a vdi reading. Those very faint, whisper, high tones
are worth the dig. IMO

I agree 100%, My best finds are the faint signals with no VDI #

Hillbillly Bob and Dirtdigginlady said it all. There's many times when I didn't have a VDI, but still heard that faint high tone and the target was a keeper. YES, by all means dig and dig deep! HH to all, Nancy

When I get a whisper and no VDI reading I pinpoint and dig you never know what it is but in many cases it is a good relic or coin or ring. Like the old saying, You will never know unless you dig it.

This is a prime example of why I feel, and am glad I did, that the best way to learn this hobby is to start with, and get to know, a beep and dig machine with no display. Your MXT will detect and respond audibly much deeper than the display will function reliably. Use your machine a lot and listen closely until it becomes natural to make your decision on targets by the sound over and/or in addition to whatever the display is or isn't showing. My two cents.

A lot of whispers that were deep that i dug that were scratchy sounding usually, foil or a broken object that got turned over in dirt, but you never know till you dig. When i get a deep whisper i will circle the target and try to see if iam getting a high tone from different angels, also i will pinpoint the object and then stomp the pinpoint area with my foot. This causes a tremor to area similar to earthquake and a lot of times breaks the object from the dirt then take a reading again.I do this on deep targets. But there are people on the forum that dig all and also figure by time you do what i said you could have dug the target, everyone has there own method. But some areas you try to be invisible so you really cant dig everything, stealth and ninja all in one as not to draw to much attention to you.Hope this helped some good luck and good hunting.
