Alot of views but few posts

Take a look at most posts and you see a lot of views but few if any replies. If you have any knowledge or info. on a post, please reply or at least send a private message. Most detectorists post hoping for actual help from you fellow metal detecting hobbyists that have experience regarding their posted questions.

I thought we had good participation on this forum. Do you want to give us an example except your detector comparison post which is discouraged here or not allowed on most of the forums. (See top post)

Do the number of views represent registered members only or does it include the people that visit the site and aren't members ? I bet I read almost every post on a couple of the forums that I visit, Explorer, X-terra, Excallibur, Garrett, metal detecting and the beach forums. I am more experienced with the X-terra and really can only offer help there. Wish I could help more.

As Larry (IL) mentioned, I don't really see that many posts that go unattended ... if they actually command a reply to begin with. Sometimes a post is a simple statement such as a complaint about being snowed in and more to come. I wish every Forum Follower would first make use of the Subject: box and use it, exclusively, if they are not contributing more than a brief acknowledgement. For example, if Detector-Danny posts about miserable weather with drifts of snow and a nasty wind chill, no real reply is needed. A simple comment in the Subject: box might be from DrySandSammy who might simply put: "72

I am sure the there are visitors that read posts that are unable to post because they are not registered members. Others will read a post and see that someone else has already responded to the question and will not respond. There are others that ope a post thinking it will interest them and it does not, so they do not respond. This happens because of the way the subject line is filled in. Some are rather vague while others are meant to draw you in to read the posted text.

As you can see there may be a number of reasons why a post is viewed more often than it is replied to. From what I can see it appears that most posts get a fair number of replies. Just MHO.

That is normal for all forums.

There are probably few that have used both the X-Terra 705 and Omega 8000. I know Monte uses an Omega, and has used the 70 version of the X-Terra in the past. The 70 and 705 are pretty much the same in performance though, I believe. I have a 70 but have never used an Omega, nor have I used the 10.5" DD coil on the 70. I use the stock coil and the 6" concentric coil, and I'm very pleased with the performance and features of the Minelab. I'm guessing that the 705 and 8000 differ more in some of the features offered, but are similar in performance.

I'm a Xterra hater so I don't post to those type of requests

I have to say, I have noticed the same thing. These forums have a a lot of people just creeping around reading rather than adding to the posts. I agree that most of these people are probably not logged in.

I do a lot of reading but unless I can add something to the conversation, I avoid posting. In particular if it is a question about a detector or subject in which I have no experience.
Some posts are not meant to be serious so snarky comments are more likely :)

So what if I read your posts and don't answer. Some times, in fact most I do not officially check in. I like to read as I am new to this hobby. Why log in to read? You can call it Creeping around if you like or am I just lurking?:drinking:

Hi 13, I do alot of reading, and if 10 other people have already replied and given good help, why should anyone just keep posting I am with you, you got that right, I agree, etc. post after post of nothing. Sometimes people don't have time to read 15 or 20 post of that. I have been here awhile but don,t have that many post. If i can help someone i do, but to just to say, Way TO GO , i don't do it.

I post a lot but again even after many years in the hobby learn a bit also so I guess its the individuals call. Some members just don't like to share and some members just don't have the individual experience and one guesses some just like to lurk but would encourage those that have an opinion, personal knowledge or whatever post away using the forum guidelines.
In addendum no dumb questions just dummies that don't post them as we have many knowlegable members who like to share and take every post with a grain of salt as I don't always agree
but certainly respect their opinions..For the Dancers I give an attaboy as they make the forums interesting and we are all learning for the Wallflowers quit lurking and join the dance as perhaps you will learn also and help another with your post..

You know what I think would be cool , Videos on each model of metal detector. Lots of people use different setups with their machine. I know it might give some of the members that are new to the hobby a better look how the (Pro's) set up the machine they use. They can be posted on youtube and linked into the groups in the correct forum. When I get a video camera that will work with my computer I will post some. I am by no means a pro. But some of the manufactures when posting a video leave out chunks of info which I wonder if they even know. An while the ground is different in every area, the the idea would come across. An if the members that post the video could add a link to this forum we could in fact draw a few more people interested in getting off the couch and getting out and having fun. Just a thought .... Jim
Kind of like this as an example, But what ever brand and model you use ,,,

Jim,
You are right. Videos like your example could help anyone using that machine. Maybe not exactly the way you set yours up because everyone's variables are different, but it at least shows what works for you in your conditions and gives others ideas to try. Youtube videos are mostly just showing what they find, few even let you see the screen and hear the target much less tell you how they set their machine up for their purpose and style of hunting. It's just everyone would have to take it for what it is, your style and your preferences and conditions, and not turn it into an argument about what your doing doesn't work for them and you should be doing it different scenario.
