Along the Waterfront.... Salt Carrier ....Genco Surprise

Today, I had to meet a couple of Gents, to give them a Tour of the Nantucket Lightship. When leaving, I need to go by Chelsea Creek Bridge. The Genco Surprise, a Salt Carrier from Hong Kong, was unloading its Holds of Road Salt, for the New England roads. Last week, there wasn't enough Salt on the docks, to fill a Salt Shaker! Winter took it;s toll here in the Boston area. There are three Cranes unloading the vessel, along with a large Loader on the pile...

That is a large ship. will the salt be protected from the rain? Question, why are the cabins at the rear of the ships? Thanks for posting these nice pictures and story. Kelley (Texas) :)

is picture #3 from the top with the house a p;anaromic picture or a picture taken with a wide angle lens? or?

I think better stability, more comfortable for the Crew. Also, the Power Plant is most likely located near the Stern, saving costs on extra miles of wires, and controls needed to connect to the Wheelhouse. Could be loading the Cargo, more evenly also.

I too have that option ...ill have to play with it ...in the days of flim camera...i did my version of panoramic picture by taking individual pictures by overlapping the next picture with the previous one and splicing them together much like wall paper and in most cases the top and bottom needed to be trimmed (xacto knife) to have the picture line up all the way across...quite a challenge but i had decent results..i sprayed caned glue on the soft (styrofoam) backing and glued the pictures on it...im sure im the only one that did this ...and they probaably did this and they found a more efficient way of doing it.

One has to have the "eye" when taking the pictures to be successful at it.
