Along the Waterfront....Russian or Greek Hulk

This vessel, is docked in Chelsea Creek, Chelsea Massachusetts. It is docked at a Wreckers Yard, so I assume sooner or later it will be cut up. The Crew, uses Torches to cut out chunks, and then a Crane lifts the pieces and drops them on land, where they cut the pieces even smaller, then carted by truck. Scrap Steel is worth some serious money know a days.

It seems like such a waste to cut these old ships up for scrap. Is there no use for them? Kelley (Texas) :)

Too expensive to maintain at this point. Most of these old vessels are full of Asbestos, hazardous waste, fuel, hydraulic oils etc. Even scrapping a vessel, there are extensive costs to dispose of all this waste. Better this way, than abandoned at some Dock, and rotting away, letting all the fluids drain into the Waters..

Some of the old ships being scrapped were beautiful when in their prime. You are getting some good pictures of them. Kelley (Texas) :)
