Along the Waterfront.... 1952 Submarine stuck on Sandbar..

Here is one of my collection of old Coast Guard Photo's, showing in 1952, Navy Submarine, "PIPER" being pulled off a Sandbar by a Coast Guard Vessel....Bet there were red faces on some Naval personnel...
Rj :usaflag:

but I would hate to have been the captain of that sub. The crew of the Coast Guard ship probably had fun telling that story for years to come.

I wonder how they came about getting stuck on the sandbar. Could something like this damage the submarine? Thanks for sharing this picture. Kelley (Texas) :)

So the Sonar jock was embarrased and thrown off the sub through a torpedoe tube??

Sonar jock would not have any responsibility for determining how deep the water was under the keel. However the Quartermaster and the Navigator both would be in very hot water along with the Commanding Officer and who ever was the Officer of the Deck (He would be the one actually running the vessel). I served on five submarines. Went to see on so many I cant remember all of them. Would love to be able to go out just one more time and hear the diving alarm and the changes that happen as a submarine submerges.

Great information George! Had you eer been at the Portsmouth Naval Station in Portsmouth / Kittery?
Had you ever known about the S4 sinking of Cape Cod in the 1920's ?
