Along the Docks.... Old Maritime Railway

I enjoy the hunt, to eyeball and photograph old historic sites, that are in plain view. Places the public drive by everyday, and do not realize the history surrounding Us. Things, Places that are disappearing right in front of our eyes. It is hard to imagine the activity, the many people, that had special skills, building Ships, and vessels, that most likely traveled the World. or went off to War....
Here you see the current condition of what once was a huge Ships Railway... and photo's of a railway still being used in Gloucester, as an example. The Shipyards, and Railways are getting extremely scarce, most facility's will NOT touch a a Vessel made of wood anymore. Too much time and maintenance needed, and too much liability's if there is a weak or rotten Hull, that could be damaged.
The First 3 photo's show what the current condition, of an abandoned Railway in Chelsea Creek, Massachusetts. The 4Th photo is the Phyllis A., sitting on the Rails in Gloucester Massachusetts, and the last 2 of the Adventure, currently on the Railway in Gloucester Massachusetts.
Most Property is being scooped up by Realtors and developed. There is a large expense, due to contamination...I am sure this area is contaminated, due to lead paint that was scraped off countless hulls, and just dropped into the mud and surrounding waters...

I did not know that it was difficult to get folks to work on the wood hulls. I guess nonsense lawsuits have taken it's toll. Yes, folks drive by historical sites on a daily basis and often do not know it, sad. Thanks for sharing this information. Kelley (Texas) :)
