Along New England... Train Station and ancient RR Bridge..

My Employment takes me to all parts of Massachusetts, daily. My Eyes are constantly looking for interesting subjects while on the road. This Station is located in Leominster, a mid western Massachusetts mill town. There are quite a few of these old Railroad Stations around, re-purposed as restaurants, or offices etc. However there are a lot more, that are NOT around.... The tracks are long gone, but across the street, is this ancient stone bridge, which enabled the trains to pass over a Stream. It is truly amazing, someone had the vision, to not destroy Rivers, or Streams that still travel thru our cites and towns.. so many are invisible, hidden in tunnels, or diverted. This bridge still has Tracks on it and across the street heading East. The crossing gates are still there, waiting for a Train, that will never pass through... so sad.... Hundreds of vehicles travel by, with so many citizens, not having a clue of the history in front of their eyes!! So few, realize that Trains, had such a large part in making America what it is today....

It is always great to discover that not everything old is being torn down. I wonder if anything famous happened at any of these old sites in your pictures. Also, when will the snow go away? Kelley (Texas) :)

AWESOME shots! A great April fools joke would be to sneak at night and pull those crossing gates down. Then hide in the bushes with your camera......lol nge

the Cops, would arrest you for screwing with Railroad gates!! Tracks to nowhere, I can see the headlines now!!

Ron,

Those are some nice train related photos. I have a soft spot for passenger trains. Loved to ride the Missouri Pacific, Burlington and Rock Island lines from southern Missouri to see my grandmother in Keokuk, IA.

thanks for a post to jolt my fond memories.
