Well if any of you read the classifieds here you already know what happened...I put an offer in received a response in a pm...thought deal was done...left for work..work midnights...and when I came home...found out the item was "purchased" by a forum sponsor... I am going to leave it at that....So the se will have to wait or the ex2, but that is ok...I will just make sure I never deal with this particular forum sponsor...

Jeff and Maria were right on. The older I get, the more I believe, things happen for a reason Gregg. Better luck on the next one.

I had somewhat of the same issue on the same machine responding to a msg he'd sent to an earlier WTB post of mine I'd put up a few days before. (Spoke to some other folks though who had dealings with same seller and they seemed pleased with their interaction so far.) So there were at least 3 of us involved on that (attempted) purchase.

And that was after some round and round w/ someone else here who'd gotten a steal on an SE a few months back only to now want to value it $175 more than they'd paid. That kind of sticks in my craw because I've been seeing the family sense that mostly prevails here on findmall and on the for sale boards* and that didn't feel right to me. I like the community feeling here.

I decided to go ahead and get a machine from elsewhere (that another findmall member had pointed me to).

Good luck! (And if I see anything good, I'll point it out to you.)

*a lot of sellers often seem to give other findmall folks a chance to purchase at better prices for a few days before they sell it elsewhere where the seller can get more $.

dont worry Greg ...you will find one....heck man with the amount of cash you dug last year ...i bet you almost got enough to buy one at retail from a dealer...i mean WOW man you dug LOTS of CASH last year as i remember :cheers:

Thanks...I agree..I think the forums should be used to buy and sell items to each other...when a deal comes along...I do not think as oh I will buy it and do a quick turn around and try and rip off another forum member not my style...funny you mentioned the seller...I will also mention the buyer...but not mention his name...him being a dealer and i understand obviously he is just trying to make a quick buck but...here is where it turns ugly...:veryangry:

I believe we share info here and on all the forums to help each other...not to make a fast buck in most instances..if the dealers sit like piranas stealing all the good deals..it makes no sense... I think most forum members know ebay is out there ...and if looking for maximum profit would sell there...this is in no way to insult all dealers...but dealers lurking on all these forums...to buy and resell at a higher price all the time...I think this is wrong! The person selling the item is trying to help others out with a good deal!!!:detecting:

Case in point I saw a automax v4 pinpointer for $25 new the other day right here on findmall...would sell for $50 at least if not $65 on ebay...No I did not buy and resell...but I hope the buyer was a person who got a great deal and will use the pinpointer himself! That is my point and you will probably see me spread this across a few forums!

i totally agree...money grubbin bums need to go to garage sales and leave the forum members alone...and if they continue to STEAL the good deals from someone who other wise couldn't afford a top dollar machine without finding it here..the dealers should be SHAMED into leaving the forum if not OUTRIGHT BANNED ALTOGETHER..:yo:

I'm not picking sides, but this is just another way of looking at this scenario. The dealers, manufactures and distributors are the reason we have this forum. Providing for and maintaining a system as large as Findmall takes $$ and the sponsor/dealers who pay for the banners, pays for our free ride to use the Forums. The dealers hope to make a profit "somewhere" so they can pay for the banners............ plus most of the dealers are fellow hunters just like us. Let's not chastise all dealers for the actions of one.

If a dealer used his "silver tongue" to persuade the seller to sell to him instead of the first to commit to the purchase.......well shame on him. Shame too on the seller who said it was sold and then changed his mind for whatever his reason was. I believe that what goes around, comes around. It would be nice for the dealer who bought it, to offer the unit to Gregg to amend hard feelings and "word of mouth", even if he has to take a small loss on the deal. The good will would go a long way and should pay dividends in the future. Sadly, bad publicity is often a death mask for many small businesses.

IMHO

Richards Backwoods Detector sales..I had an item up on the forum..Richard was interested..When I said a forum member was interested he backed off instantly... I think thats a good dealer....As a result I purchased two new detectors from Richard in a little over a two month time frame... He also gave excellent deals on the detectors..and one involved a trade. I don't know the man personnaly, but he seems like the type of guy one would want to deal with.

like to get one shipped for around $800...less than a year old...with basic accessories and bag...keep an ear out!

already had another bad deal with another forum member! See classifieds...honestly I believe most dealers are good honest people...at least I hope so...the one/ones I am talking about steal the deals right under the noses of those who thought they had an agreement with seller. Larry I have received several messages since this post...with the same type of ripoffs happening....Also I agree the dealers have to make money of course...but be fair! When you make a mistake correct it...be a man or women your parents wanted you to be not a rat! Also you mentioned correcting something when done improperly by a dealer....well I can tell you this particular dealer may not realize it...but he has already lost some business because of what happened and I have been told in a few private messages on other forums...and one person in particular that he is going to lose more business in the future!

I have done business with Richards Backwoods. It was good to do business with him.
