Almost Had a Skunk-hunt, And Then...

Just as I turned around to detect my way back down about 7 blocks to my truck, I hit gold. It's 10K with some very modest diamonds in it. And I nabbed it NORTH of the pier....go figure! :)

Funny thing is that there were a bunch of black kids and family swimming and cavorting in the water as I worked the wet sand right near them. One of the kids asked me if I was looking for crabs. I told him no, I was looking for diamond rings, gold jewelry, chains...stuff like that. "For real???" he says...as all the others look on. He asks if I've found any and I say "Not tonight...just a bunch of money so far." So I begin to swing again and BAM...signal. So I go to dig it, now being watched intently by a half dozen people, all wanting to know what's in the scoop. I knew from the tone it wasn't a penny and I thought it was too low for a nickel...COULD IT BE GOLD??? I don't know who was more shocked...me or them...when I pulled the ring out. Amazing...

Always a Bright Bauble from the Man with the Midas touch. If you don't buy lottery tickets you might want to start.:lmfao:

Cheers Mate,

Mike, that has happened to me on several occasions, not only does it blow you away but them also. I love it! Did you get some taggers after that? Some just don't know when to leave you alone. Congrats on the finds from yesterday? Just returned an '06 C.R. the other day myself. Coil on my Tesoro went flaky the last time I was out in the river. I had just got it from Ron's(site on this forum). When I explained the failure of the coil to work under water they told me to return to Tesoro. I said, no you can replace and send me another. I'm waitng, no hunting this wknd, bummer. Congrats on the finds! RichardWNC

About the man that found a diamond ring right in front of them. Too funny!

They didn't tag me for long but have sure had that happen. That's why I prefer night detecting for the most part. I do like when these folks see stuff like that though. So many of them assume we are a bunch of losers looking for some pennies. A guy asked me last night if the detector finds pennies. I told him unfortunately that it did. He said he wondered because he was walking in front of NormDiver and RobRacer and dropping them and they weren't finding them. I asked him why he was doing that and he said eh wanted to see if they'd find them. I told him they were probably ignoring them, like I do. He was clueless that 1) the detector could tell the difference and 2) that we wouldn't necessarily want pennies. He didn't have many teeth.

I had a streak like this going last year...13 hunts with gold. Excal been berry-berry good to me.

One thing I have noticed is that it takes me about 4 times longer to move up the beach as it takes everybody else. When the targets are scarce, going S-L-O-W can help. Miss it by an inch, miss it by a mile. I've been doing a lot of "gridding" from the water to the top of the wet sand and somewhere along the way I always seem to find that ONE SPOT where the targets are hiding. I'm hoping for some storm action here soon that will spread the goodies around and make 'em a little easier to find.

I've always done well in the low number streets, but I've also found a lot of my best stuff right in front of the Boardwalk Hotel. That's where I got the one last night. But that spot has been pretty much ice cold for me this year. And when I go north of that, it's like the place has been gone over with an vaccuum. I keep trying to go north but mostly not getting squat that way. You "northerners" keep a clean house!
