I hadda go across the county to one of the outlying towns for a little business today and, of course, a detector accompanied me. As always.
This time it was my mean, green, Garrett GTP 1350.
The weather wasn't cooperating, though, at least not initially. It has been pouring for the last day and a half and I mean gully washing!
Much of the Southeast is under water; creeks are rivers and ponds are overflowing their banks.
I saw two cars in the ditch, from afar. Hoping to help, I found cops already on duty assisting the hapless citizens. Yay, cops!
But I was undeterred by the weather. After all, you never know when a break in the storm will come, so you can't give in.
Keep your gear dry and ready - that's my motto.
At time like this I remember those detectorists who brave the cold and damp in northern climes without complaint.
With them as my inspiration, I stop whining and get to it.
So, John and Les... this hunt was for you.
I didn't find much in the way of loot, just the usual suspects. I did luck up on a nice eatery in town - a steak sandwich with peppers & onions, cheese and a side of fried okra for only $4.50! Big John (Va) admonished me for making a glutton of myself, but hey, a man out in the cold and rain has gotta eat warm, belly filling chow!
Best thing about today is I was reminded how much I enjoy being out in the rain. Its quiet and there are fewer people around, wondering what you're up to. I was approached by a city worker, but he was interested in what I was looking for, and not trying to be officious. When he learned I was merely "out and about," he got bored and moseyed on his way with a wave.
Here are the meager gleanings. No nickles, or gold rings, dagnabbit...
