Almost a quarter grand slam:clapping:

I decided last night to hit this small park that's been around since the 1850's this morning. It was a little wet, but I wasn't going to let the damp weather keep me from going detecting. It was a constant light drizzle all morning and was suppose to clear up some in the afternoon, but after about four hours of detecting my "ole" XS crapped out on me. Not sure what my problem is, but it's happened before in good weather so I don't think the rain had anything to do with it. The problem was I laid my detector on it's right side and it shut off all by itself. Tried to turn it back on several times and no response at all. Before she died on me I was really on a roll. My first target was a 1896 Canadian dime. Saw the wreath on the ladies head and thought it was a barber at first, but she was facing to the left and realized it was Canadian. I then got a 1904 injun and then that sweet sound of silver. Out pops a 1914 barber quarter and I'm thinking man I found a good spot. After a few more digs I ended up with a nice 1927 SLQ and a 1934 Washington quarter and all I needed was a seated quarter for my slam, but no such luck.:sadwalk: My other finds were a 42 & 43 merc dimes and a 48 rosie. Wheats were 1940, 1944, 2-1956 and a 19??. Not bad for only four hours of detecting and makes me wonder what else I could have found if my XS wouldn't have died on me. I have hunted this park before but only the upper part. I was reading about this place and come to find out the lower part of the park is where most of the people would hang out years ago so that's where I went and I'm glad I did. I emailed Minelab to see if they might know what is causing the problem and I'm sure I will have to send it in. I heard through the grapevine though that there turn around time is about three weeks if your lucky. Not sure I can live without my XS for that long, but you got to do what you have to do I guess. Anyway, it was a good day and a sad day all in one for me. One more thing!! I was sitting in my car waiting for the ferry and I heard this noise coming from the back seat. Got out to check it out and my darn XS had turned on all by itself. Go figure!!!!! Thanks for looking and HH.

Sounds possible that maybe your contacts where your battery connects might need attention!
maybe if your lucky.Congrats on the great finds!

Wow, that's an awesome hunt!!

Nice Job!! I'm with Bob too on your XS problem possibly being your battery contacts, especially if you said it turned itself back on. Maybe the springs that make contact on the battery pack have lost their tension, or your metal contacts on your battery pack need to be scraped. Dirty contacts can cause intermittent power problems.

Congrats on a fantastic hunt Eddie! Hope you get the gremlins out of your machine and you are hunting again soon. JJ

WTG Eddie, Good Job , I just got a Explorer , Did you have stock setings??? And how Deep was thay Be in the ground???
I just Got a SE and im still a newbie, Thanks Eddie, Mickfin,

I did clean my contacts on my battery packs, but like you said, my contact springs inside the battery housing may be getting weak. I was thinking about melting a little bit of solder on my battery pack contacts to build it up a little bit and see if that might help. HH.

I'm past using the factory preset settings and play around with them. I would suggest that you stick with your factory settings until you get to know your SE. I'm not familiar with the SE, but there are some guys on the forum that can give you a ton of advice if you need any help. That's another nice thing about this forum. Most of my finds were in the 6" range and a couple were about 8" deep, Good luck with your SE and HH.

Eddie

Thanks Eddie, Mickfin

I was playing around with my XS in the house last night and man I got a whole bunch of things going on with it now. Put a fresh battery pack in and turned it on and almost immediately I got a message on the screen saying batteries are too low to operate. Hit the power button to turn it off and it wouldn't turn off. Pulled the battery pack and started over. When it shuts down by itself and when I can get it turned back on it wants to go back to the factory preset settings all the time now. I got hold of Minelab and Trina told me there could be a loose connection inside the housing unit causing all the problems. Looks like I will be sending her in for repair and without a detector for three weeks and possibly longer.:veryangry: HH.
