Thank you, looking forward to the posts..any suggestions on settings will also be appreciated.

Thank you for your time, and valuable input.

Hi Elton,

I use both an Explorer II and a X-Terra 70 on the saltwater beaches here with varying results. I just love the X-Terra 70 and with the 10.5" 18.75(HF) coil, it hits even the tiniest metal hard. However, when used in wet sand, the detector is tougher to pinpoint targets accurately (I am not talking about the pinpointing function in particular, rather the ability to line up the target for digging). It is also a bit noisy but that is the nature of the higher frequency as well as the single frequency nature of the X-Terra line. On the other hand, the multi-freq Explorer handles the wet sand much better but this comes at the price with the way the Explorer handles. I am not saying that you won't be successful with the X-Terra on the wet sand, rather it takes more patience and alot of tweaking when working with a single frequency machine on wet sand. On dry sand tho, I'd rather have the X-Terra to swing all day. There is enough info in the above FAQs to get you started.

If Minelab ever put all of the Explorer functionality (oh how I miss a backlight on a X-Terra esp for those really early morning runs) into a X-Terra body, I'd be the first to line up to buy one. One can only wish that Minelab is thinking the same thing for the next major revision of the Explorer.

My two pence...:)

cheers...Keith

I own the x70 and the sovereign and when I hit the beach, I grab the sovereign because it is stable as can be and no falsing. The x70 makes a bit more noise in the wet salt and is more sensitive to bumping the coil on the ground.

I live on West Coast of Florida and hunt primarily on saltwater beaches and use a CZ 20 for water hunting. I also own an X-70 and it has made more than just a few trips to the beach. My experience with it has been when I get near wet sand all I have to do is lower sensitivity to 18 from my normal 22 while hunting in descrimination!.

I now use my Sovereign for the beach, when I used the 70 even with the sensitivity set low it was not good to pinpoint with at all.

I was so hoping the x-70 would work..

The X70 does pretty well on the beach but it really does depend on the mineralization at that particular beach. Just last week I pulled $6.00 in quarters alone with a slew of other goodies. The only time I would have any difficulty was when in the water but it proved to work pretty well, just lower the sensitivity down a little bit and you are set. I did notice in dry smooth sand I would set the sensitivity around 18-22 but if it's coarse sand (mostly shells) I can set the sensitivity to 22+ and it will work fine. You just need to experiment. Here's a pic keep you motivated, this was a combined effort between my g/f (using an Ace 250) and myself using the X70.

Note: 3 dollar bills were found lying on the sand, the $20 was insisted after I found a military issued phone for an individual. Not pictured was a ring, 2 earrings and some charms. Cellphone missing battery/sim card and video camera works perfectly!
