"All that glitters is not gold...."

I was demonstrating an MXT to a woman, and she wanted to see how her various jewelry items audibly signalled, as well as read on the VDI meter. Using iron-level discrimination, her rings did ok, then she wanted to see how her gold crucifix, from Italy, signalled. It didn't. Nothing audible, totally rejected. Meter reading locked onto the iron zone. Reduced discrimination to accept iron, nice signal. The crucifix was magnetic: iron! Whoa! She was not happy that she had bought a bogus, gold-plated iron jewelry item. Bummer. This happened to anyone else? HH jim

Yes... I sure have had one of those Italian Gold fakes. I purchased what was supposed to be a dug 14 K Mens Nugget ring. Said right on it 14K,Italy. Got it off the Treasure Depot.Beautiful Ring. Weighed about 20 grams. Looked good to me. I paid $105 for it. Listed and sold it on EBay for $179. Buyer had it tested and I had to take it back. Still have it setting here looking at me to remind me there are rip off guys even on the Forums. Somehow by the time all this had happened I lost all information on the guy I purchased it from. "All that Glitters is not Gold"

Sad but true, unfortunately scammers everywhere...Not long ago someone was telling me about an xlt he bought for $500...3 months later he cannot even get the guy to respond. These losers ruin it for everyone! Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I do not buy anything on internet for more than $20, unless it is from a major company.

Jim, I may have found something similar. I dug up a heavy linked bracelet that is marked Italy 14k, but unlike most of the gold I've found, this one was rather badly tarnished. Under the tarnish is a color that resembles rose gold, so I suppose it might be that, but I'm guessing it's a fake. I'll have to air test it and see.

HH,

Dan

It could have been that the guy from the Depot bought and sold the ring with the same impression you had, that is was legit. After all it was stamped 14k.

thats fraud remember the jesus on the cross said store not up treashurs on earth whear thevs steel the woman needs a magnet when she buys jewlry from now on

I hope the guy makes repentance and restitution befor he stands befor the almighty or he will not enter the city whith gold streets
