I am new with this at pro. I have it set on coin. Stand. And it seems that all I am getting is penny's. I am sure tHere got to me nickels, dimes and quarters.

Finding penny's is telling you that the detector is working. Unless you have higher coins notched out, you should be finding dimes and quarters if they are there. Bear in mind that there are many more penny's dropped so you will tend to find more of them. Also it is possible that someone else has Cherry Picked the area and taken the good stuff. If you are finding like fifty or a hundred penny's and nothing else on a hunt then I suspect that may be the case.

Good Luck

I do the same, If I am hunting like at the local school yard I refuse to dig any zinc pennies and will only dig nickles, dimes and quarters. I will dig the pennies that fall in the copper range in case there is a wheat penny in the mix, but the zinc's are a waste of time unless they are recent drops. The ground eats them pretty quickly.

It depends on the area that I am hunting ......If I'm in an old park , I will dig for I.H. or copper pennies ....Ya never know what you might find .....When I go to the beach , I dont dig ANY Pennies ..... One occation the beach was scraped by bulldozers ....It was like going back in time !!.....EVERYTHING that was dug was old ....Wheat Pennies , Buffalo's , Merc's , Silver galore !!.....It was extremely odd to dig a memorial Penny for a change !!!.....Jim

Ya'll just keep notching those zincs out. A good heavy 14K mens gold wedding band will hit just like a zinc!! Now, where is it you guys hunt?? I'll be right over!!

I try to make it a rule to try and dig at least 20 penny signals when I go out. After that I do skip over a lot. I was hunting my favorite park one day when another detectorist came along (which I didn't have a problem with). We chatted for a few and went in opposite directions. About 20 minutes later he showed me the large 1947 gold class ring he had just found. He said "penny signal", threw it on the ground for me to check and sure enough,.. penny/dime signal. We were both using Ace 250's. I have also found a couple small silver rings that rang up the same. I noticed before that a lot of signals in that range are not always pennies. Ya, never know....

The odds of me finding gold rings in the foil, nickel , and pull tab range are FAR greater than me finding Gold in the Penny range ....Out of 12 or so rings this year , and a bunch last year , none of them where in the Penny range ....... Most of them in the Pull tab range as we have so many varieties of Pull tabs here in NY that the numbers are all over the place ....Jim
