All my good hits with the Sov. G T

Yet every iron square nail, ever piece of trash gave a wonderful tone.

I wonder if I had the digimeter if I'd have dug any of those?

when you get one of those hits switch real quick to all metal , all that stuff in that picture will squeal like a pig in all metal and you wont dig it so much anymore, occasionaly you will get an old nail that still fools you but most of that in your pic. you would have passed with a quick check in Am mode , I still dig a bunch of that crap too but just because old sites have tons of that stuff and some does sound good or there is something 'different'' about the sound so I investigate. After A while you will regonize it as iron junk ,it has a more hallow sound to it, some of that stuff pegs out at 180 on the meter and sounds good, but the Am mode will reveal it as the crap that it is. .......I feel you are getting piZZed and frustrated with the GT , just give it a bit more time it is different than anything else and being that you have hunted with other top notch machines I imagine your frustration is well warented, It will sniff out good stuff that other machines dont see, I hope its starts getting better for ya real soon .....

Hi Tony, I look at your finds as a learning curve or experience. Just hang in there and give it a chance. Go slowly and use the front and center of your DD coil to find the target. I have a lot of iron in the dirt here and my thresh is silent most of the time. I think the GT is a pretty good analog instrument. Ok Tony happy hunting.

Some of the things shown is only normal as they are close tones without a meter as you will see the numbers to go along with the tones. Some of the iron you will see are easy to tell once you have some experience with this detector as they will not repeat correctly, or null and give a quick good tone on the edge of it. Stick with it as the Sovereign is a great detector like the Explorer is and some will tell you the Sovereign will see some target much better than the Explorer will too. I have seen it myself and just talk to a guy the other day at our hunt that has both and been using the Explorer mostly until the arm cuff broke so he had to take out his Sovereign again. He found many nice coins he missed with the Explorer and commented on how much easier it was to tell the good from the bad with the Sovereign. This come with experience with the detector.

Some of the items shown are not iron and they could have been told with a meter. Now iron most of it is by the audio you can tell the difference and some with the meter as you will see it will be a null or negative number. Iron just seems to be not repeatable or moves and cant lock on doing the wiggle like a good target will.
The meter will help more with the close tone IDing a pull tab from a higher tone coin and even the beaver tails off the old round pull tabs from the nickle.Between the audio and meter I can tell most screw caps from a coin too.

Tony,

These finds can be used as a learning tool for ya. But I have to ask, What was your sweep speed? Fast, medium, or slow?

How do we explain how fast our sweep speeds are to each other?

Anyway, in my humble opinion, when the sweep speed is too fast, some junk targets will beep as good. And as Rick has mentioned, some will beep on the outer edge of the coil. He also mentioned that iron isn't constant.

Some of the iron targets you did dig, by the sound would prolly cause me to dig them as well. I think the iron targets that have a hole in them might beep as a worth-while target.

In the all-metal mode, some targets would have wailed very loud, indicating a big chunk of metal.

The iron square nails, again in my humble opinion, is a good indication that you will be finding some really deep finds. I know that sometimes they beep as good in my area. But when I check the target from a 90 degree angle, the target will null. I also check with the wiggle, and with a very slow sweep.

One other thing. Was your tone setting set at multi-tone, or single tone?

I once hunted like that and didn't realize I had it set to single. I felt like a silly rabbit for while.
