All Metal

An argument for all metal.
Have done a bit of testing (in air) with several machines. Was primarily interested in target masking and discrimination. What I found has made me rethink my own hunting technique. I used a thin iron, back packing, tent peg and placed it beside, then on top of and then a slight distance from a quarter. With the machine

All metal is the only way to hunt in my opinion. I know its a pain to dig everything and at the end of the hunt my trash bag is full, but you just don't know unless you dig it. HH Dennis in Idaho

I start to find more goods after reduced the discrimination to almost nothing, on the DFX i just reject -85 to -95 most of the times on the woods -90 to -95 and hot rocks i use 10 (half way), after couple hunts the noise don't bother me anymore.

LOL...had to laugh at that one rober roy. Sounds good though! I usually start off with the discrimination to cherry pick the silver and other good coins, etc. then when we go back to the same place, I did all. OK, most anyway. Usually add to the garbage bucket in Larry's truck, but that's fine too. I don't dig the negitive signals.
Wish you all the best of luck. Nancy

I thought I was the only one that did that. Someone said I was wasteing time but
I see it as just that more time out enjoying the day!:detecting:

"Waisting time" NEVER! There's been many times that the great hubby even does this. Why not "cherry pick" and then go for the other things. Not wasting time at all. Just like you said, "enjoying the day!". I can't complain the way that I hunt. Last year's finds were very very good to me. I say do what you want to do and be comfortable with doing it! It's a wonderful hobby with benefits to boot! Nancy

Don't get me wrong - I don't have a problem with disc. or "cherry picking". Just pointing out how easy it can be to miss good targets when masked. I use disc. and take the easy road fairly often.

Yes, you do have a point. From my experience with the MXT, you have to trust your machine. I have found an old rusty square nail along with that wonderful piece of silver in the same hole when using the relic mode and with the discrimination high. If there's a constant high tone, I dig. Sometimes I contribute to the "junk" bucket that way....lol. It's all fun and excitement. Maybe that's why I like detecting. You never know what's down there!!!!! :please:Nancy

Not only trust it, but really get to know it and its foibles. I generally am curious to what made the beep and usually dig to find out even when it's a 99% chance it's junk. I guess that's why I keep at it even tho a lot of the time I just find clad and stuff. We never know when the next one will be the great find. Snowed here again this morning so I guess I'll do something else.

Amen to that Bill! You do have to know your machine. This simple MXT has taken me years to "really know" it. I love it and even know different tones it gives, even though there' is no tone ID. Practice practice practice! And enjoy doing it! We had snow also today. It's melted now, but still too cold to do much outside. Nancy
