All Metal

An argument for all metal.
Have done a bit of testing (in air) with several machines. Was primarily interested in target masking and discrimination. What I found has made me rethink my own hunting technique. I used a thin iron, back packing, tent peg and placed it beside, then on top of and then a slight distance from a quarter. With the machine

I do agree with you Bill. Some situations require all metal and there is no substitute.

I agree with both of you.

I don't think most people realize how many targets are hiding.

I find stuff left in trashy areas. Practice, practice practice.

OH!! that makes tired, but happy.:goodnight:

HH,

Yep.
I was using my Silver umax, passed over a quarter that sounded like trash (pop, click) but with just enough signal to indicate a possible target-I was set on the lowest disc setting. Unable to believe the chopped signal on such a shallow find, I switched to all metal to recheck the hole and received a sizeable iron signal right in the center of the hole.

Chances are with a touch more disc. you'd have had no signal at all whereas in all metal you would have had a solid signal. On some sites I think I may swing in all metal and switch to disc. to check. All comes back to dig everything to be sure or recognize that you may be missing a goodie now and then. Of course some sites are so trashy we will still take the path of least resistance and use enought disc. to stay sane.
