All metal verses discrimination modes

New member
I've been try to hunt more and more in AM mode especially in the very open areas where there's not much trash.
I've read where the AM mode is deeper, but I've done some test on various buried coins and found that on the deep 6+ coins the AM mode doesn't give a very loud response compared to the disc mode. What I mean by this is the audio zip zip is not very loud. I've found many coins in discrimination mode that I thought were at least 6" deep (that gave a very distinct loud beep) and switched to AM mode to only get a slight response in the audio threshold. Just wonder if I might be doing something wrong.

Mark what machine are you using?

If your using the F70/F75 even though the sound may be lower, is the TID accurate in both modes?

I use the F75 and the TID seems to be the same.

you do know the sensitivity adjustments are individually controlled for each mode, right?

n/t

On what level have you discrimination in disc mode ?? (in amm there's no discrimination)
In my opinion motion all metal mode is more stable and he has better ID (even in trashy areas)

I see some of ya are new recruits. Let me open your eyes to the disc vs all metal video I done last year:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVb_OYhvXzA

Now something to keep in mind is that since I done that video, I have a lot more hours on the F-75. And since then, I've found that in some ground worse than where I was at, that the mid-high conductive signals wont even do that "bounce". But will instead, lock in around 13 on the number ID, reading as iron. You wont hear those in DISC mode and if you do, it will be as I demonstrate in the video...broken or choppy and you'll never dig it.

If you wanna get the most out of your F-75, you'd best be running it in all metal. Other wise you make folks like me very happy when you don't :)

It would be great to run AM metal in some grounds but in my ground I can't so AM has its place but not where I live and hunt

Running the machine like that (to me) gives you less detailed info via sound. The disc mode on the F-75 has some kind of sound compressor to it that takes away from being able to really "size" a target. Even at 0 disc and mono tone. The ground here is so bad that there is a lot of extra "noise" in it...all metal is the only way to hunt here to insure you're not passing up things. I'll hunt all metal in woods and fields, but also in campsites, and around old home sites and such. I don't even really need the ID anymore....just go by the sound and size of the object. That's why I was able to go around at the DIV in March, digging bullets and buttons in places people had absolutely pounded to death. I dug my breastplate in a spot that had probably 10+ dig holes within a 5' radius of where I was standing when I dug it. And day 2 and 3 of the hunt, all my finds came from checking and rechecking areas people had scraped with their boots where they'd got signals and passed them up as junk.

I don't use AM much because I hunt very trashy places. But if you have a place where it is not a lot of trash will work good.

well done , your getting to be well acquainted with your detector. All metal mode is my preferred choice. once your well used to it ,its the best.i even hunt trashy site`s with it. i can pick the good signals out quite easily now if i go slow enough in and amongst the trash..
