Does anyone know how to do this? I'd like to do the modification this weekend, Could someone please help me out. I don't want to buy the wrong one, thanks
Carefully cut the v mount off the bottom of the meter. File & sand smooth until it looks factory. Cut the top loop off of the handle, file, sand smooth. Drill & tap handle to accept a fine thread machine screw..1/4" at largest maybe smaller, cant remember. Use a button head allen screw like this for clearance screw Make sure you use fine threaded screw, the handle end where you are tapping is not very thick & you need to get as many threads as possible in it.
You will need to drill 2 holes through the bottom of your meter. one for the mounting screw & one for the toggle switch.. The location of these holes is critical. Make sure you have enough clearance between the new toggle switch & the adjustment pot in the meter . The mounting bolt placement is critical also. It needs to be so your finger fits between the the handle & the toggle switch & the head of the mounting bolt needs to clear the bottom of the meter assembly inside the meter . There is not much room for error so measure twice, drill once ..
Also assemble with a rubber washer the size of the handle or bigger between the meter & the handle.
Thanks for the response but there is one more thing that I need to know. I think now all I need to do is connect the wiring to the old switch to the new switch?
Could someone please answer my question. I still haven't done this mod because I didn't receive a answer on how to correctly connect the new switch. Do I need to connect the wiring to the old switch to the new switch to make it work? I don't want to fry my detectors board. Please respond before this weekend. Thanks Troy
take wires from old switch and use them on new switch
my advise is if you dont do electronics then dont mess with it..
anything can happen if you dont know what your doing here..
good luck
john
There's a way to use one of the wires in the coil cable to get inside the case but it's a hassle. I drilled a hole in the case to install a pinpoint button. If you not comfortable opening the case and using a soldering iron I wouldn't advise it. Hot solder on the circuit board can cause some issues.
I made the handle but I've seen them for sale. The wires go thru a plug. When it is unplugged the detector act a normal. The buttin switches from disc to allmetal
