All Metal to Discrimination

Ive gone thru the suggested process for all metal ground balancing of the sovereign in a lightly mineralized area. I find a suspected target .I want to turn the unit to discrimination to further check its creditability. My question being ,when I go back to All Metal mode do I go thru the all metal ground balancing proceedure again? thanks

as far as i know no, when you go back to all metal it returns to the last setup you had, unless you switch it to all metal-track, then it will track the ground and hence change the settings you had.
hope it helps, cheers

Yea, what he said. So long as you have it in Fixed when you switch back it will be the same ground balance as far as I know. Never heard any different. Still, if you are flipping back and fourth checking targets then maybe you should just it in tracked to be safe?

Too many passes in tracking mode over a target can track it out, similar to the SAT on a pi, especially if its questionable, i would keep it fixed the same as it was before finding the target

Yes, I know that, but if I was doing reverse discrimination and covering a large area then track would be a more logical choice. I'd only use fixed if you are working the same type of ground in a small area. Otherwise Track is just as good for checking targets, as the initial few sweeps won't cause a target at fringe depth to vanish. I'm no fan of Track on any machine, but it does has it's place in certain situations. Namely, if the ground changes alot quickly. If you were to stay in All Metal most of the time then Fixed would be my choice, because you'll hear the ground change and the machine get noisey as a result, where as you might not notice this switching back and fourth just for a minute or two to check targets. It's added insurance that the machine is following the ground you're covering, and if you lose the target in All Metal track then just flip over to fixed to re-check it.

As far as i understand Track doesn't work in disc mode, its disabled and auto digital filtering takes over, if you lose the signal in all metal with the tracking on, switching to fixed won't do anything to bring it back as its tracked out at that moment, turning on fixed will keep it tracked out as it stops any more adjustment and maintains that setting. What you need to do is come off the target and pass a few times over the ground nearby in track then turn to fixed before going back over the target. I have not used the track very much on the sov so far so don't know how many passes it takes but on the Whites DF you will lose the target in half a dozen passes. I have read that you can use the tracking to get rid of hotrocks, continued passes till they dissapear then switch to fixed, no more hotrocks.

Yes, I understand that...but it only takes a little sweeping off to the side to reset Track to proper ground balance should you lose the target, then flipping over to fixed to re-investigate it. I'm not sticking up for track. I rarely ever use it on any machine I've ever owned. But, if I'm just doing reverse discrimination and moving around a good bit (even from wet to dry sand) then tracked is a more logical solution. I know is Discriminate ground balance isn't used or needed. That's just one of the reasons why BBS does things that typical VLF detectors can't even hope to keep up with.
