all metal or disc?

Hi all

Guys is it better to search in all metal mode or disc mode on the beach with the Cortes?

Hi Lazal, I have a Corte's, and have hunted in all metal, but you will get a signal for every piece of metal on the beach both good, and bad...
The detector will still give a readout on all targets, but you would be spending a lot of time peering at your screen to work out whether to dig or not dig.
Disc. mode saves a lot of time Lazal, and I generally set mine to about the "L" of foil, and if there aren't too many tabs, then I'll leave the notch switched off...
That's how I do it.

Hi Snowy and thanks for your reply.I'm new at this hobby and still just trying to find my way around.

I've noticed that when in disc mode on the beach the machine gets very chattering at times {seems mostly when the tide is on the way out?} even at the setting you suggest.I turn the sens way down to 4 but concerned if I'm getting any real depth because of it,just wondered if I would get better depth in the all metal mode instead?

Thanks again Snowy and happy hunting to you also!

Lazal,
if you are detecting right down to the wet-salt sand you will be effected by the salt in the wet sand...
I get quite a lot of noise when down to this part of the beach also,
you can ignore the random chattering and only check out the really positive repeatable signals,
I got a nice silver and turquoise ring recently doing this.
Is this wet salt zone where you are detecting to,
and getting the chattering???

Yes it is and I see what you mean, ignored the chattering and did manage to pull a few good finds up.I noticed the difference when the machine really hits home on a good target, solid response both ways of the sweep, practice makes perfect I guess? :)

Thanks again for your help Snowy:detecting:

Lazal,I was at the beach today detecting the dry and the wet salt sand... I was thinking of our conversation, and put my Corte's in all metal, with ground balance set to minimum, ie. completely to the left...
Had a good situation on this setting in the wet sand.
Found a $1 coin at 6 inches, and as you are saying after you get used to the non-repeating "false" salt~response "chatter;"
you really can notice the repeatable full sounding true signals allright!
