"all metal mode"

I've read that all metal mode is the deepest mode of detection. On the MXT what setting would that be? Disc at zero? Do I lose depth with any setting highter than zero? Also have read that prospecting mode is the deepest detection. Does anyone coin shoot in this mode? I usually hunt in C&J but have tinkered with prospecting mode in places I considered hunted out and come up with some non-ferrous items (if its not iron in a ghost town I dig no matter what).

No matter what mode you use, setting the threshold properly is the key to depth. I prefer the C/J mode with the disc between 2 and 3 for general hunting.
Set the threshold to the lowest smooth sounding level possible. If you have matched the headphones properly to the machine AND your ears you can hear the threshold breakup and sound ratty just before it goes quiet, you need to get just above that level where it starts to smooth out, that way you can hear the faintest possible signals break the threshold hum. You will dig a lot of really tiny shallow targets but you will also hear the deeper stuff.

Hey, that's good news for me. Must have been doing something right because I was definately finding the "really tiny shallow targets" that were sounding like the really deep targets. I'm confident that before long one of those WILL be a good, deep target. Then I'll have that much more info on the difference between the two.

The MXT only uses ALL-METAL when you are using pin-point and when you are in Prospect mode.
The zero discriminate does not disable the discrimination circuit.
Propspecting or pin-pointing sets you into a mode that shuts down the discrimination circuit and reports on ALL METAL found. At least that is my understanding.
Corrections invited.
Good luck!

When you are in RELIC mode you are using BOTH All-metal mode & Disc mode at the same time. This is often referred to as Mixed Mode.
Be careful about setting the Threshold too low though. The MXT seems to prefer a slightly louder threshold to enhance the deeper signals and give a louder Audio Target Response. A higher GAIN setting will also affect ATR, but you need to be careful and not cause threshold instability with a TOO HIGH setting of Gain.
