All metal mode on the MX Sport ?

JASONSPAZ1

New member
From the way I am reading things is that if you turn off SAT in the MX Sport all metal mode it will turn into a NON MOTION all metal mode.
Is that correct?
Or is the default all metal mode on the Sport NON MOTION by default?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Jason,

Not sure what you mean going into non- montion with SAT feature off, but I'll share what little I know about the MX Sport all metal SAT.

I was under the impression SAT in all metal helps the MX Sport handle difference type's of mineralization, that's what I use it for. The tougher the soil the higher SAT I use, lower mineralization use lower SAT.

SAT effect's depth in all metal mode, be careful use only what you need. For instance, at a fresh water lake with tough Black Sand. I'll start off with a SAT of 3, this is using prospecting mode. Then, if the Sport stability isn't quite there will bump up SAT until it operates with good stability. Plus, you'll notice recovery is quicker but with some depth loss. Which in many cases is ok, because you'll gain back depth with having better stability and hear those tougher signals.

Inland farm hunting, depending on mineralization can get away with using SAT between 2 to 4 in prospecting mode, these are good SAT speeds allowing the MX Sport to Punch extremely deep yet have good stability. We are taking almost Pi depth using VLF technology coil for coil, but when soil gets tougher or thicker in iron area's bump up SAT a Little to increase recovery speed.

Prospecting mode is my favorite with the MX Sport, then Relic mode.

Good luck,
Paul

Thank you sir.

Good explanation Paul. I can even understand that.

Any depth comparisons with the coil you use on the sport with the HF coil?

BTW, found a broken red lead at the solder connection on the inside of the headphone. It must have been a bad connection because it is a non stress joint.

Thank you paul.

A pleasure Jason,

Great news, today before work found a few more old age indicators from a late 1800 farm house. Area is farm land with no visible signs other than chards of pottery and glass of the old homestead, but underneath the soil are a ton of old iron with a few old age indicators. Lately, been using Prospecting mode with the MX Sport.

I'll share before the week is over, my Prospecting mode settings and pictures of a few neat finds along with a picture of the original 1892 map. The property owner never new there was a farm on his property, found the old site last week.

I feel others will start taking advantage of Prospecting mode for relic hunting, punches deeper and those weak signals even those near the surface are much easier to hear. Masking from mineralization even the slightest can weaken a signal when using disc mode. Need a good Pi or a good All Metal Detector with iron grunt abilities, out in farm land it's the best approach to nab those deeper tougher signals.

Good job El getting the headphone repaired, that's wonderful!

Haven't compared the Deus HF coil with the MX Sport, but I would guess the Sport will be deeper. Will compare this coming weekend, both with Prospecting mode. Was a little disappointed with the recent Deus Prospecting mode update, it's either iron audio on or off iron sounds the same as conductive targets. Was hoping they would allow the Deus user to adjust iron audio so it has some form of separating iron from conductive with audio, other than this the Prospecting mode is great but not quite what I wanted. With the Sport, can clearly head iron with Prospecting mode.

Enjoy the cool breeze, heat is around the corner :)

Paul

Looking forward to your future mx sport posts Psul.

Thanks
Jason

That option doesn't work with the Prospecting mode, It defaults to iron grunt.

But it does show the reject iron volume feature with prospecting mode, but nothing changes when making adjustments to this feature.

Paul

Thank you! That's unforunate, though, because I built up a negative aversion to hearing that loud *grunt* sound with my old MXT. :)
I guess it's a good thing then that the All Metal mode has no grunt (or you can turn it off in Prpspecting mode.).

That's true GoldChaser,

One can turn off the iron grunt with Prospecting mode, Must be a reason White's didn't include reject volume with Prospecting mode. Maybe on a future model, and with the MX Sport Prospecting mode the grunt doesn't blast out loud so maybe White's toned down the iron grunt when defaulting to using the iron Grunt?

I believe the Relic mode only has the reject volume feature, I use it often with relic mode running a low volume with iron. For my type of hunting, prefer to hear iron as its a form of additional information helping me determine what's below the ground.

Also, When searching for settlements. Use Prospecting mode and what I'm after is excessive amounts of old iron and using the iron Grunt feature helps me locate old site's.

Take Care,

Paul

Thanks, Paul. I'm convincing myself to buy a MX Sport, to add to my SST, which I like but has its limitations. My best guess is that I would use Relic mode, like you sometimes do, with iron turned down to about 50%. That way you can still hear it without it being too much of a distraction. But the best part is that it runs in Mixed-Mode, which gives you All Metal depth once you get too deep for VDI recognition. Seems like the best of both worlds.
