All metal and jewelry?

Anyone only hunt in all metal? if so..once you put in the time, can you distinguish jewelry in that mode? or is it best to use coin/jewelry mode? when i get the Safari, i want to learn to hunt by sound and not rely so much on the TID #'s. i hunt in SC so i'm after old silver which i know FBS is great for..but i also want a machine i can take to the lakes and mainly beaches to KILL gold/silver jewelry!!???

BLRRLB, i've tried on many, many occasions using all metal mode but I'd drain my battery in 2 hours with all the sounds i get on every pass, lot of iron in areas I hunt. you can make a custom mode, deselect -10 thru 11 and you'd be running wide open while scrimming out the iron.

Only use all metal for setup, finding clean spot to noise cancel, setting sensitivity. Beach hunt 2 weeks out of year hunt in CO,No icons, disc set at 0 to 39 open was finding small gold jewelery, and stainless fishing leaders, and for some reason a lot of wire frame glasses.lots of lead sinkers.

In all detecting enviroments I run jewerly mode, the pattern just works very well. I tested it at a pawn shop on all kinds of jewerly and every item I ran past the coil it found. In the field I have never dug a good peice of gold below 9 (some people have :poke:). Sometimes if I really want some fun or the area is clean enough I use a cross saved relic mode into conductive tones and have been very successful. My favorite number besides a bouncing 38 to 39 is a 23 bouncing to 24 the tone will be higher than what you would expect for those numbers if its a goodie

The only thing all metals does is give me a migraine. If I wanted to hunt in all metal why on earth would I buy a minelab, known to have legandary discrimination. Some people do exclusively hunt in all metal and dig everything, I just wonder why they dont just buy a PI

Tom

Fog, Tom- I try to use all metal if I'm in relatively clean site with minimal trash, like an inactive corn field. If not, I prefer relic mode, in comparision, less bombardment of audio range, but still able to hear that sweet sound of silver vs. clad.
BLRRLB- Forum member Croaker (Croakersmoker7:geek: wrote some time ago, that he always hunts in all metal, high density and has posted great finds from the sticks of South Jersey. Do a "search" on him, then select author from the dropdown & all posts.

Hunting in relic mode or all metal mode the tones are completely different than in the other modes on the same target. I believe that in all metal mode the detector picks up and does not miss as many targets especially if running in manual sensitivity mode 16 or higher. (this can be proved if you get a small bleep while in coin or jewlery)..switch to all metal and the signal will be stonger and more solid in my experience. I hunt mostly in relic mode -10 thru 5 closed 6 thru 39 open 40closed and have very good luck on everything from bullets to old coins and jewlery
