All I can say is wow!

I just got my E-Trac today from Backwoods Detector Sales and had about 15 minutes to try it out during lunch. I ran home and hit my back yard which has been hit pretty hard by my other detectors (Whites MXT, Tesoro Umax Silver, Quatro, and Explorer SE). I went straight to one corner of my back yard where I have found old coins in the past. I set her up for Fast Recovery, Deep, Difficult Ground, and used the Coin program. I noise cancelled and started swinging. About 5 minutes later I had a 1953D Wheat, in an area that I know I have used my other detectors on. The coin came through clearly on both visual and tones, it was about 3 inches down under a rusting nail. All I can say is wow!! I cannot wait until I finish Andy's book and get out to the beaches. I was also blown away by how much more balanced the E-Trac is over the Explorer. I know it is going to take some time to learn how to use this machine to its maximum potential, but it is going to be worth it. :detecting:

You put it together and did all that straight out the box in a 15 minutes slot in your lunchtime, wow, your some kind of superman. When I got mine I spent the first night charging the battery pack properly and just reading the handbook for tips. Ive had all the Explorer models from day one but this isnt an Explorer its a totally new detecting Experience not to be rushed into. I had one of the first ETs into the UK so I had nobodys brain to pick, lol. I know it pretty much inside out now though because I didnt rush things. Enjoy it and calm down. :D

I got home from work tonight and went back out to another part of the yard that was just full of nails and the like and tried it out to see what would happen. I was out there for probably twenty minutes, I used the same settings as earlier and I struck Gold. About 7 inches down I found what at first I thought was a piece of cut pipe, but as I pulled it out I realized it was a school ring! My first gold ring of 2009!!!! It is a 1965 class ring from Georgia Christian School. I cleaned it up and found a first name engraved inside and it is 10k! This is the first class ring I have found where I have the possibility of returning it to the owner. I am an E-trac believer. This area of the yard has been gone over by every detector I have owned and never once got any hint that this ring was there. Again, when I get done reading Andy's book, I am going to be dangerous!! Thank You Minelab and Thank You Richard from Backwoods Detector Sales!! This is the best first day out I have had with any of my detectors! If anyone could provide me the link to the lost class ring website, it would be appreciated. :minelab::cheers:

Matt,

Great find . . especially in your backyard!

The website that lets you look for a posted lost ring or submit it for someone to search for is:

http://www.classringfinder.com/

Best of luck in your upcoming searches!

Andy Sabisch

Gotta love it. Enthusiasm like this is contagious. Be right back, gotta go get my heart medicine............................:goodnight:

Andy,
Thanks for the website link, I posted it. I found the school online and will be calling them tomorrow to see if they can help me find the owner.
Best regards,
Matt

I gotta wait till the end of the month to get my hands on my new e-trac......you're not making the wait any easier!! :sadwalk:

I hope I'm posting a "wow" thread next month.:clapping:

Nice find mate,

Cheers
Greg

The E-Trac is a great detector and I know it will find targets we have missed with the other detectors we have used. Many want to pick it apart and compare it to the Explorer which it is not, but it is a upgrade that works just fine even in the factory presets and will see targets we have missed before.
Now you will just have to go back over your yard again and see what else you have missed.

Good luck

Rick.

Just wanted to give an update on the class ring. I have posted it on www.classringfinders.com and I have also been in contact with the school and they are trying to assist me in finding the owner. This is as exciting as finding the ring! I will keep you posted.:wiggle:

When you are able to return to the owner something he hasnt seen for years and something he thought he would never see again and now he will see it again. The feeling you will get will better than finding the ring itself.
I always ask if they remember what they were doing when it was lost and if they can remember right where they lost it and been surprised at how many remember almost the exact area it was lost in. My last one I found was lost in 1945 2 weeks after he got it in a old town ball field and he remembered right where he lost it and how they looked for days for it, but didn't remember exactly what it looked like. He was 73 years old when I was able to return something he hadn't seen in all those years. He passed on about 2 years ago, but I still remember the look on his face and how great I felt to give him something he hadn't seen for all them years.

You are doing a great thing trying to return this ring and I hope you are successful as it will be in your memory forever.
