Alan Mash - Should GPX 5000 Owners Ditch Them for an ATX?

Hi Alan,

You have accused me of not answering your questions. I have one for you.

Should GPX 5000 owners sell their GPX 5000 detectors and "upgrade" to an ATX? If not, why not?

There has been a pretty clear upgrade path over the years. I have upgraded to each new Minelab PI as it came out, selling the one before, and never regretting it. You appear to be making a case that the ATX is a better choice for people than a GPX 5000. If that is true, it stands to reason GPX owners should want to make the switch.

In my opinion GPX owners can safely stand pat until something better comes along. At most they may want to add an ATX as I have done to take advantage of its waterproof capability, or perhaps to explore its potential on small or specimen gold. But under no circumstances would I tell them to ditch their GPX to replace it with an ATX.

So what's it going to be Alan? Straight up, all the video games aside. If money is no object, what is the detector you are going to recommend to somebody dead set serious about prospecting for gold with a metal detector between a Garrett ATX or Minelab GPX 5000? In your opinion, would a current user of a GPX 5000 be better served with a Garrett ATX?

Hi Steve...Well I'm glad you are still talking to me for starters!

I just watched my last video again just to make sure that I was not telling people to sell there GPX 5000...and of course I did not and I even called the 5000 "The King" in the last video Duh.
So I am perplexed as to why you ask me this as I have made it very clear that I am not doing that. Steve, just for kicks, watch my last video again and tell me that I am trying to get people to ditch their 5000. Or any of them for that matter.
I even said in my video "I'm not selling mine!"... You know I did not say these things...

Knowing you have watched the video before, and that I did not try to tell people to ditch their 5000 nor did I say buy your ATX from me (reno chris accusation) this question from you seems to be a ruse to try to snare me. Also your question puts words in my mouth that I never said! A liberal tactic I'm very familiar with. Like your question here, is not worth answering: "Should GPX 5000 owners sell their GPX 5000 detectors and "upgrade" to an ATX? If not, why not?" The inferred "upgrade" is YOUR words...my exact words from my very latest video is "the ATX and GPX is the most deadly detector combo I have ever seen". I'm sure you remember that.... So I believe your question is a snare and a manipulation. Or as most people say, a loaded question! The Pharisees tried that with Christ...didn't go to well for them...:nono:

That being said, because I'm a nice guy I'll answer your other question here...

Steves question: "If money is no object, what is the detector you are going to recommend to somebody dead set serious about prospecting for gold with a metal detector between a Garrett ATX or Minelab GPX 5000?"
I would tell them about the King,The Minelab GPX 5000. Then I would tell them about the Garrett ATX, in that order.

For the common man with limited finances... the Garrett ATX is first in line! That would probally be 90% of people anyway! So I guess I would be telling more people about the ATX! :poke:

And your other question was answered in my last video also: "would a current user of a GPX 5000 be better served with a Garrett ATX?" My comment in the very first scene of my video answered this question, talking to GPX 5000 users: "I'm not trying to get you to sell your GPX 5000, I'm just giving you another option for a new tool in your arsenal". From my video...

Steve's other statements: "At most they may want to add an ATX as I have done to take advantage of its waterproof capability, or perhaps to explore its potential on small or specimen gold." --"want to add an ATX as I have done" Yes; that is what I said also, in the video! --

Steve said: ""But under no circumstances would I tell them to ditch their GPX to replace it with an ATX""
-- Here is the snare folks that Steve is trying to pull off here as he in insinuating that I said to replace the GPX with the ATX - nice try there Steve, your digging your hole deeper. :pinnochio

I have 19 videos about the ATX out now and in not one have I said for anyone to replace the GPX 5000 with the ATX! Nope not one, just giving them another high end PI option.

Steve, It's like you never watched my video at all! All those questions are answered there, but I suppose that people that never watched the video and read your questions here, might believe that I believe those things, which I believe is your intent in the first place here, to try to discredit me? Yes, I think so...:nono:

Just watch the video folks and you will see Steve's questions are an attempt to snare me or accuse me of something I've never said.
Who are the ones who are doing this...sad to say, it is the Minelab dudes....Steve, JP and Reno Chris. My former gold detecting hero's...:please:

Everyone else seems pretty thankful for the videos whether the vids are perfect or not.

I'll stick with the common folk...

P.S. I am selling my GPX 5000! Lol  :clapping: :poke:

Well, that was an amazing response to a simple request for clarity. Feeling a little paranoid this morning? Yes, I do think you have been talking out both sides of your mouth on the issue. Yes, you are a Garrett dealer intent on making a sale. People who are not aware of that need to understand that. If stating facts is an attempt to discredit you then you are squirming a bit too hard for cover, I think. I wanted a single post making clear my opinion in the subject for the record, and yours. Time will sort out who is pulling the wool over people's eyes. Thank you for your response.
