Aircraft Supply and size for Aluminum shaft ?

" Aircraftspruce.com get 6061t6 7/8 OD .745 ID 4 feet @ $3.20 per foot #03 36450" ( advise from erikk )

erikk built a few of these rigs , so I took his advice and went with the above, even though I was a litle bit skeptical because of the tight tollerances ...... He was RIGHT !!!......This is a really NICE, SNUG, FIT !!!!...... There is no movement in the lower rod in the least !!.....A big thanks for this info .... I now have the thickest aluminum wall that the lower rod can handle so it's plenty strong !!..... I think that the spring clips might be all that's needed to keep this setup in place ......Thanks erikk !!......and thank you to the rest of you guys who contributed info ...It's much appreciated ....Jim

So what is the best lower shaft to use?
I want to set-up a straight rod for my e-trac with the control unit off the rod. i heard that my 10x12 SEF coil ears will work on the sovereign lower shaft?
what you are saying here is that the White's tall man lower shaft should hold the e-trac SEF coil too (if it works for the sovereign/excal)?

The mounting bracket on every coil for the Sovereign, and the E Trac are the same size ........I'm not sure how you're going to mount the E Trac Control Box on a round upper rod though .....The Whites lower rod fits the above Aircraft Spruce tubing EXAXTLY with no slop .... Attaching the E Trac control box and making a battery box are now your only concerns ....Jim

I'm planning on slinging the unit on a strap and using a 6' CB radio 5 pin extension cord.
That means absolutely no weight on the shaft top. Like my excal on the hip mount.

You might want to check out those bags that Gravediggermax uses .....They look like the hot ticket to keep your machine dry and you can see thru them !!....Please give us a link to that CB radio extention cord you speak of ....Sounds interesting ....Thanks, Jim

Most ham/cb radio shops will have them

the one you saw on the -bay is a 4' cord - that's tight. i got a 6' from CB World, wearecb.com, it's item MCX65SBX - it was 8.29 plus 6.30 shippinh to me from OR.
the cord looks well made with additional stress coverage at the connection ends where the cord would be bending a lot - i did not try it yet but i've read that it works fine.

Erikk and Jim:
I just received the Aircraft Supply tubing today - WOW - that is the cleanest, closest fit for a White's tall man lower rod you could possibly ever get.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Barry

Hey, somebody with a bigger signature file than me. :yikes: I really should trim mine down, it's just that I have so much to rant about.

Barry,
I was just as excited when I got my tubing !!......You can thank Erikk for that information ..... I just passed it on ...... How much sand do you think you're gonna have to worry about with that fit ? ..... .....Jim
