Air tests---Explorer XS vs Sovreign

I'm reading a lot about air testing. My sover air tests are kinda lame(told it was typical of BBS). So the FBS is Different????? also the Sov sounds off like I hit a ManHole cover over a Quater 5" in the ground. I'm getting the impression from reading posts that "the deeper the target...the fainter the Response"????Guess I need to do some more air testing and less typing!!!!!

Air tests should only be used to familiarize oneself with tones/sounds, and not to judge a detectors ability in actual hunting scenario's. BBS and FBS detectors will not show outstanding results in air tests, as they are designed to operate over soil. The deeper/smaller the target, the fainter the sound is standard for any detector. Learn your sounds and trust them 95% of the time. Meters should be used as a backup, and trusted 5% on deep targets. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
