Air Testing

Boy could I have fun with that but I won't. HAA. Air testing is just what it implies, testing coins in the open air to determine the probable depth of your detector. One way is to lay some coins ( spaced a foot or more apart ) on a flat surface with no metal beneath it or near it and scan over each denomination of coin while slowly raising the coil to see at what height the signal stops.

The other way ( bench testing ) is to lay the detector on a flat surface with no metal under or near it and pass different coins in front of the coil as you move them farther away from the coil. You can lay a ruler in front of the coil length wise to determine peak depth on each coin. Do this in all the modes and at all settings on your detector.
