Air testing

Ward

New member
What sort of depth should I get air testing a Quarter with my v3i, in coin in jewlery mode ?

well with the vx3 i got 12 or 13 in factory coin or coin and jewlery mode. i think thats pretty good.

I never tried to air test mine. I never had a reason. What counts is how it tests in the ground. What if it get the quarter at 14" in the air and doesn't get any depth in your soil? All that matters is getting the best performance at your sites. Then don't worry what people are getting in their area of the country. [attachment 218420 Untitled-1.jpg]

Few years ago brand x would air test a dime at 18 inch's. But could not hit on a silver dollar in the

Ground at 3 inch's. I don't believe to much in air testing sence then

I have found with most of my air testing that I get about 3/4's of the air testing depth in ground. This has held true for me with the XLT,DFX and V3i. I am sure not all can get these results, and a lot will depend on the area and soil you are hunting.H. H. Yazoo

I agree that air testing is somewhat fruitless due to it's NOT " real " world testing of the machine . It needs to be GROUND TESTED where it counts.
I watch those videos on youtube about what this one does compared to another and get irriated that they are pushing misinformation.
:ranting:

i think the air test is good for checking your target numbers and tones thats it or to see if the machine actually works

I agree, there are some uses for air testing including comparing coils to each other, but implying that is how your detector will work in the ground............... well a lot of people will be really disappointed when they start hunting with it.

With the 10x12 sef coil my V3i gets around 13-13.5 inches on a quarter with disc at 92 rx gain at 15. Never have tried with tx boost on. I agree, airtest are only good to maybe indicate to you the user that your machine is working properly.
