Air testing the M6???

Quarter?
Nickel?
Dime?
Any results posted as of yet???
Have the Prizm V and considering upgrading to the M6, but is there enough of a difference to off set the cost??
Also considered a Big Foot but still not sure, since many don't use them, and it seems there is no depth improvement with the coil. Just coverage.
Found a lot with the Prizm v, but not much over 7"
They don't go deep!!

Thanks

These are strictly air test and nothing else... we all know that in the ground is where it really matters....
M6 is new...with fully CW sensitivity....discrimination fully CCW with trigger in center position... These figures are within 1/4" and repeatable in both directions...

Coin M6
1/2 Dollar 14"
25 Cents 13"
10 Cents 11"
5 Cents 13"
1 Cent 12"

Again, these figures are only air-test... In ground, there are many factors... Richardntn

How is the target response speed of the M-6 ? Air test ranges look very good, maybe even a little better than those I saw with the MXT.

start anything but the air tests are better than the MXT. The response is good too, as fast as I could move the target in front of the coil, always clean and crisp.... Too, slowing down and working in the trash, seems to not affect the machine either... The M6 does
perform better, depth-wise, with the trigger in the center position...
Why, I don't know... Thanks Richard

Did Dave Johnson do the update work on the M-6, or was it mostly just software upgrades to clean up the noise experienced on the MXT ?

You mention the trigger in the center position. Is that single tone or multi-tone position ?

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

Ralph

with the trigger forward, audio ID, the M6 doesn't have but an inch or so on the MXT but in the center position it has the MXT by 3 + inches.... Richardntn
Maybe someone can jump in and tell us why....

Would be interesting to know just what upgrades they did in the software. Sounds like they may have pushed the gain a little hotter, but supposedly the M-6 runs quieter ? Interesting (and tempting). ;)

My information isn't that good ... but I think that White's is using a "modified" MXT chip... Evidently the sensitivity (recieve) has been tweaked and at the same time cleaned-up... The single tone is the center position and the one with the better depth... In that position, the audio is pronounced and very strong
even on deeper targets... Richard

Richard,

and the nickel and dime are right on with yours but the M6 beats my figures by an inch or 2 on the quarter and half.

When you've been doing these tests, are you using one specimen of the M6 or are you checking several? The reason I ask is I've seen significant unit to unit variation with some of the brands so I factor that in to how I interpret results. Please understand that I mean this as no disrespect to you or your test results, but just acknowledging manufacturing variances. I do appreciate your reports. :)

we can rest assured it's not "threshold trickery"!!!!! I just hope it's not quieted down by the software setting a bit of offset to the tracker. (Heretofore to be referred to as "tracking trickery"!!) Seriously, I'd rather be able to choose if and when to use any amount of offset which is why I hope that's not the case here.

It seems to me there would be considerably less unit-to-unit variation in these units incorporating microprocessor designs than straight analog. It's hard to vary identical software..... ;) Of course, there is always room for error. Just turn me loose on a DFX, and I'll prove my point !

checked one....and you are right.... i.e. out of approximately 20 MXT's, 3 "seemed" to be hotter...1 of them was unreal....wish I had kept it.... You will see that variation in all detectors, I think to a certain degree.... but I think that the "hot one" is the exception.... This M6 could be the "lukewarm" one though...see what ya started:lol: As I take em out of the boxes, I will check them...
Tnx and best to you, Richard

I have not used a whites for many many years.
Iam about to buy a backup detector for my Explorer should I get the X-Terra 50 or wait for the M6 which has not been released in the UK yet.Your thoughts please and reasons for choice.
Thanks,Jerry.
